Fight Through 2nd Round Search Bug.

Post by rkr1958 »

Fight Through 2nd Round Search Bug.

(1) I encountered this bug last night and have posted it, along with the game file, in, Private Development Forums -> World In Flames Development->Bug Reports 8.0.0.1.
(2) This appears to be an obscure bug; but, would have had "significant" negative impact if not "worked" around.
(3) The bug is for a second (or later) round of naval combat against a target (in this case IJN CA & CV) that's successfully intercepted, decides to fight through & the naval combat continues beyond the initial intercept round.
(4) For the initial round, CPs should not & do not affect the search rolls.
(5) However; if the naval combat continues past this initial round, it should.
(6) That is, for example, subs in the 2-box should (also) find an enemy with CPs at in the sea area on a search D10=3.
(7) In my case they did NOT.
(8) After a fairly involved 1st (intercept) round of combat I was frustrated by this because 3 subs that should have been included in the naval combat on D10=3 (in fine weather) were NOT & this would have significant affected that and following rounds of naval combat.
(9) My fix, was to reduce the US search roll by 1, that is D10=2 (instead of the actual 3).
(10) I then proceeded; but kept a mental check NOT to use the extra surprise point.
(11) The reason I posted this after posting the bug report in the private development forum was to pass this bug and workaround along to others.
(12) I'm not saying this bug won't get fixed; but given the activity I've seen (or lack there of) over in the MWIF private development forum ... I just it might be good to pass along this bug and workaround in case anyone runs into such.

Re: Fight Through 2nd Round Search Bug.

If anyone is interested in reproducing that error, I've included the game file and steps necessary. FYI - if you are not a beta tester, you'll need to chance the version number to one compatible to you version of MWIF in order to load it.

Bug: The impact of CPs on search are NOT being included in subsequent rounds (i.e., round 2 or later) after a successful Naval intercept and the intercepted chooses to fight through.
MWIF Version: 8.0.0.1 (Debug),10,0
Phase: May/Jun 1942,2,Naval Movement,None,Italy,Japan,
Steps to Reproduce (also see screen caps pervious post):
(1) Move IJN CV Shokaku & CA Kumano from Fukuoka to China Sea.
(2) USN does NOT commit subs & successfully intercepts, D10=1.
(3) IJN Search D10=10.
(4) US chooses naval combat, Sub in order to move on to the second round, which should be normal naval combat after this initial intercept round.
(5) Round 2, USN DOES commit their subs, which are in [2], [3], [4].
(6) USN Search D10=3, which means ALL subs should find since the IJN have 6 CPs in [0].
(7) IJN Search D10=10, USN elects to fight a sub combat vs IJN[0].
(8) Note that only the USN Subs in [3] and [4] are included.
(9) That is, the 3 USN subs in [2] are NOT and should be in round 2 with a search roll of D10=3 & fine weather.
