Manual update

Post by Chris21wen »

Could someone confirm that the manual is also in the process of being updated? It sure as heck needs it, many things wrong, missing or very ambiguous.

Just looked for monsoon effects again, bad memory, and re-found that there's nothing in the manual. Fortunately I had downloaded the info and saved it separately so no need to searching again.

The manual in the most recent beta update is as far as it's going to go. I changed some stuff and added some stuff. I think I added something about monsoons, don't remember....GP

I current have 7.31.2022 I assume this is a date. In it there's this on monsoon.

12.1.1 Monsoon Season
??????????

So is there another complete later version and if so please make it available outside of the game download.

Here's a link that says the Monsoon season is Jan-April. It is not Alfred that posted that but he is in the discussions all around that post so I think it's valid.

PS: I just searched Alfred +monsoon and got lots of hits.

Thank BBfanboy but I think the point has been missed. This is not about the monsoon but about the manual update. The missing monsoon info is an example of what is missing etc.

As to the monsoon, yes you can find stuff in the forum but I don't need to as I already have link https://forums.matrixgames.com/viewtopi ... 2#p2791192. This from 2011 but still correct as far as I know with one addition. On AF <=4 pilots gain more fatigue and the service support provided by AV support is lower. (Patch 1108q9).

The one I have is dated 2023-04-28 within the file itself. I recently reinstalled AE after a decade hiatus, so this is what's "shipping" currently. There's an MSword and a PDF, the PDF file name says 3-3-24. Regardless of the 2023 versus 2024 dates, it's newer than 7.31.2022. I can't say whether it is substantially different.

To the sub-topic, it doesn't address monsoon.

Remember the manual update as part of 28, like the rest of 28 as been done on a volunteer basis.

I have no idea what the process was like, what goals were or what the acceptable output quality was agreed to.

I believe GP stood for it, so maybe he could chime in and comment on the OP.

Thanks every one, I've just download the latest 28 beta from Matrix and it does come with a later version of the manual labelled as final version.

On a quick scan and word search there is nothing in it about monsoon, in fact the word monsoon is not even mentioned. Section 12.1 that was in the earier version I had has been taken out. I might just have to tinker with it myself although it maybe sometime before I do can much as I'm waiting for the final 28 release before playing that version.

This is what I have in my reference sheet pdf. This is an item I copied out of the forums.

Source : Alfred/BlackHorse and Michaelm

In the latest beta (1108q9), I have also added monsoons to Aviation Support and Pilot fatigue recovery after watching several old newsreels on the Burma Campaign.

During the monsoon period and at bases where monsoons have affect, if the AF is less than level 5, the pilots of groups stationed there gain some fatigue and the Service Level of the AF for maintaining a/c is lowered affecting repair/maint.

I have only included less developed AFs as more developed AF should have better repair/maintence facilities and better accomodation for the pilots to counter such affects.

Already does indirectly, albeit the effect is hard to see at times.

1. LCUs in a malaria zone suffer greater fatigue (chapter 12 of the manual).

2. The amount of fatigue slows down the maximum rate of potential travel by a LCU (page 189)

3. Bases only export along the LOC excess supply. Excess supply is greater than >2x supply required at the base.

4. During the monsoon bases which are not built up struggle to achieve 2x supply required

5. Supply is used up at the base in taking reinforcements so units (land and air) in a malaria zone engaged in combat find extra difficulties in maintaining their combat power and hence the tempo of operations
