Those town battles sound very fun and fairly evenly fought it seems.

What does "they advanced into town using marching fire"? I imagine a column of redcoats firing musket volleys at buildings while marching into the town. There must be a WW2 version of this.

The concept of "marching fire" is equivalent to the "Advance Fire" in the wargame "Advanced Squad Leader". Here, Heroes of Stalingrad refers to it as the "Assault Move."
