attack fighers vs fighers and bomers

I am a bit confused on attack fighters vs bombers and fighters. Are attack fighters a blend of fighter and bomber and if so, then can a person only research that one tech rather than the techs for both fighters and bombers.

I have only ever done fighters and bombers and have never tried attack fighters.

The game treat both fighters ang fighter bombers as in the "fighter" category and only need to research one of them. Fighter bombers can be useful if you are dominating the fighter scene and don't need as much anti-fighter capabilities and use torpedoes on your bombers and fighter bombers.

That is the short and easy answer.
