I can't tell because you don't have the hexside control on but it looks like that base just east of Bilbao can't get Nationalist supplies. You could close hexsides fairly easily with small units. You would then just need to bomb/bombard the enemy to reduce their supplies, thus holding them by the nose . . .

Other bases there should have nice fortification levels.
Seek peace but keep your gun handy.

I'm not a complete idiot, some parts are missing! :o

Thank you for reminding me about the hexes, I need to do a better job in showing them. I thought about standing my ground, but I ended up retreating. We're overrun southwest of the city, and we need to close up our ranks a bit. Is it the right move? We'll see.

NAT air becomes more and more active.
Just 40 miles between the Army of San Sebastian and the REP Army of Zaragoza.

It is shaping like I can keep Santander or Bilbao, but maybe not both. I am going to gamble that I have a bit more time with Bilbao, with all those hulks of destroyed garrisons (9) creating a nice fog of war for NATs, so former Espinosa troops and even some Bilbao ones will advance towards Santander. We're still shipping unit from Gijon, but at a slower pace now that NAT CL is in the area.

9/23/36: The Central Front

Post by Rysyonok »

Over the past month Madrid has been facing multiple threats; there were some rogue bands in the west, in the northwest, and a real NAT zerg rush from the northeast. The northeast offensive has been slowly rolled into one hex, and then, despite my throught that NATs will run to Zaragosa for reinforcements, they walked right into REP-held Guadalajara, and I may have a quick victory on my hand, which I need because... Next slide, please... Oh - and it's only 80 miles to the REP Zaragosa army forward troops.

NATs have 7 new units coming from the south, so we may need to start wrapping it up here. So far, we've had slight advantage, and I was even able to send a couple of raiding parties to pick up on empty bases, but this may be it for now. I don't have any spare reserves in Madrid to send over - and they won't get in time anyway. The downside is, I give up this area, and NATs have a supersonic highway to my weakest spot, Santander. But if I stay, I'm too far from supplies and reserves.

Another bloody turn. These are starting to be the norm.
Zaragosa - San Sebastian REP groups: 40 miles apart.
Zaragosa - Madrid: 75.

Intermission: Ibiza, Menorca

Post by Rysyonok »

We have a unit in Ibiza, it was able to take 3 bases, but without a port it's just a paper tiger as it can't reinforce.
NATs landed at Menorca a couple of times and did some damage, but the remaining long-range REP guns took care of all invaders. Mind you, at least 7 post-Menorca CD units are already fighting on the Eastern theater. Some were mobile to start with, some semi-rebuilt after destruction.

A tough turn. REP forces around Zaragoza are starting to encounter significant NAT resistance. Santander is relieved a bit as one NAT stack around it is routed - and we get to reclaim 25K of supplies. 40 miles between Zaragoza REPs and San Sebastian. 60 miles between Zaragoza REPs and Madrid.

9/25/36: The Western Theater

Post by Rysyonok »

Our Western holdings are starting to collapse, even though we were winning in places. The goal now is to fall behind the river to Canaveral, the last chance to cut off the NAT rail link to the North. Preferably, without hostile encirclement.

My lines on the Eastern (Zaragoza) theater become so thin that NATs rightfully corner a couple of small units and annihilate them; we're going to have to close ranks and regroup.
Still no news of my lost small barge fleet off Gijon on 9/19; I've come to accept it as a thick Fog of War. After all, how else one of my sub commanders can report a sunk enemy vessel, only for another sub commander to find it minutes later?
I love it :D

Very nice reading.

It's nice to see your enthusiasm.

Wait for the Republican army to develop more.

After October 1936 it will start to really visibly increase.
Also in the form of TOE unit upgrades.
I mean increasing from company to battalion.
(beware AI does this too).

You don't say if you do it, because some units are already increasing in the 9th month.
