Crossing Super rivers

Post by macgregor »

So if you walk on a destroyed bridge, you can then move onto a super river and cross it?

If the unit has enough organic engineers - yes, they can cross.

Otherwise... you wait for the engineer units to arrive.

Check the unit's Special Abilities - it's right below the Reconnaissance ability.
If you're STILL making Panzer IIs after seeing your first T-34... you're probably going to lose.

Ferry/Bridging Teams allow crossing of major rivers/canals. Engineers allow entrance to blown bridges in that terrain.

So how do engineers get the heavy equipment and transportation across a blow bridge?

Do they? We're talking about how the game works here. Does an engineer unit allow other units to cross a blown bridge? I can't recall. But the engineer is allowed to enter the blown hex to engage in bridge repair.

And I quote:

12.3. Major Ferry Support
Land units cannot usually enter Super River or
Suez Canal locations. Units that have a Major
Ferry Capacity of greater than 10% have the ability
to enter these locations and create temporary
crossing points for other units. If the hex contains
a blown bridge, a unit with engineering equipment
can move into, or through, the hex and even
attempt to make repairs.
If a Scenario designer
has placed an Anchorage (port) in the hex, this
will allow Land (and Naval) Movement into and
out of the hex as well.

I learned that here; https://forums.matrixgames.com/viewtopi ... r#p5035992

Can a unit containing generic engineers enter a blown bridge hex on a super river? And if it can then can that unit can also leave the hex on the other side of the river? If the bridge is gone then how does the heavy equipment get across? No way to ferry it. The bridge isn't fixed. Yet somehow all of that equipment including vehicles somehow gets across. This piece of magic has always been a thorn.

Only the engineer unit itself can use that method. I don't think it can get other units across, like Ferry/Bridging units can. But, engineers are the highest form of life in the universe, so anything may be possible for them. 8-)
