Tide of War - 1. ASEX-25 (Unofficial) Update

Post by Kushan04 »

Hi everyone. Here's an unofficial update to ToW - 1. ASEX-25. This should fix most of the known issues. Official update to follow, probably sometime next week.

- Fixed Special Action: Radio Warning failing.
- Fixed scoring penalty after being allowed to exit the exercise area to attend to the distressed civilian vessel.
- Adjusted points loss for violations of the exercise area. Every 60 minutes you will lose 10 points for each PAFMM ship that is inside the exercise area. Every 5 minutes you will lose 2 points for each ASEAN ship outside the exercise area (until the distressed ship event fires, then you can leave at will).
- Successful boarding actions now reward 10 points. Failed boarding actions will lose you 10 points.
- Added description of seaplane mechanics to scenario briefing.
- Points loss at start is now -250 (was -500).
- Fixed Aircraft and RHIBs being able to ram PAFMM vessels.
- Updated radio warning description to tell players it works for aircraft and ships.

I've played this revised scenario, and it works MUCH better now.

The only note I would give is that the player should receive some points for successfully boarding and detaining a PAFMM ship. I understand there not being any score for successfully ramming due to political consequences, as in this playthrough, I ended up only ramming twice, and both times were preludes to successful boarding.

I agree with the points being rewarded for successful boarding, and I'll probably end up undoing it. I think the original designers intent was that you got your points from completing the exercises, and then you had a menu of bad choices for how to react to the PAFMM vessels. It was fairly easy to get yourself into a death spiral of points. Rewarding points for successful boarding actions was a "panic reaction" in case the changes to PAFMM ship scoring didn't work out. I do plan to shorten the scenario to 12-16 hours, we'll see how that version plays out internally before committing to to the idea. I don't want to change the scenario too much but I kind of feel there needs to be another option for dealing with the PAFMM vessels. Maybe water cannon or a warning shot action. The structure for the actions being Radio Warning -> Water Cannon (or whatever) -> then either boarding (with a risk to increase tensions and points loss) or ramming (which risks damage to your ship).

Yes, you can drop the scen file into the ToW scenario folder in the steam installation (you can rename the original scenario and keep it as backup)
