heya everyone!

came here for a little look-see and oh, my... steve is still buggering on with his vision of a computerized monster wargame - wow!

reading the freshest posts here and on the first few pages of threads on this slot at the bottom of matrix' forums made me do it - again. i just re-installed this behemoth of wargaming bliss and am starting to go through the motions of re-learning mwif - again , oh yeah.

mind you, i never made it to the end... to actually 'play' a scenario. nope. but hey, i had it all! the books, the map-pack, the little man in my ear whispering about the full monty of grognardism! but the patience, that i never had...

but, here i am, and i guess, the next 3-4 months (my yearly allowance for learning a game system) will be filled with toe-tipping madness into the deep end of the pc wargaming atlantic - there will be u-boats... and sharks, i'm sure.

so, yeah... the motto stays the same, as it has always been:
steve, this one goes to you as well. all good health and the will to continue.

K-B-O - Keep Buggering On

thanks for reading.

cheers!

Currently there is no AI in the game, so there is no Tutorial of which you speak.

MWiF is a two player only game. There is no AI. You could play it solo by playing both sides I suppose.

Yes, MWIF is a multi player only game. There is no AI. You can play well with 2-5 players, by playing in solitary mode and sending the game file back and forth. You could play it solo by playing both sides, for example in order to master the rules.

Isn’t there AI being referenced in the latest beta notes, though? Forgive me if I misinterpreted something…

Currently there is an AI being worked on and currently it will play the Russian side in the introductory Barbarossa scenario.

Hi guys,

I see the 8.00 Beta available for download - but I also heard mention of an experimental 8.05 Beta version?

Any truth to that or is the 8.00 the latest?

Made me look. :D

The latest public beta is still 8.0.0.0 (9/20/25).

And the last and latest beta tester version is 8.0.0.1 (9/18/25).

Of course, only 8.0.0.0 is available to general owners, while 8.0.0.1 is available to registered MWIF beta testers.

So, basically, this game is (apart from two bug fixes) in the same public position it was a few years ago, when I stopped playing it due to the frustration & irritation generated by the mal-functioning convoy system. I was continually editing the file with the final production number - every turn - because the exe kept undoing my 30 minutes of work.

E.V.E.R.Y. T.U.R.N.

I went back to playing WitP:AE.

I understand that Steve is not, we are advised, being remunerated for his efforts. I therefore refuse to criticise him, as some on these boards seem want to do. I understand that his area of interest is in AI. I do not know what his concept of an AI for this game entails. I do understand that what "AI" means in most gamers' minds is actually a scripted opponent, with myriad branching trees of scripts, that will include things like the IJN successfully completing a script culminating in occupying Port Moresby, triggering a new script for an invasion of Queensland, and stuff like that. I understand that there could be some threat detect-react behaviors coded that are closer to an actual AI, than the strategic scripting.

I do not know what the programming architecture of this game is, but wouldn't you want your code writer to establish a framework, within which the scenario maker inputs the critical data for the relevant scripts? As in the scenario writer inputs instructions to assemble 3 x surface warfare ships, 2 x CVs, and two INF corps on transports, plus supporting land based air if it has the range, then bomb/shore bombard/invade Townsville?

Maybe pzgndr has more of an idea of what is going on here, but I would be highly surprised if anyone is coding a 'thinking machine', or even trying to, in the context of this game, and the minimal resources on hand.

I am humbled that you think I have some insider knowledge with MWiF, but I don't. I'm just waiting for news from Steve like everyone else. I continue to wait for the half map Fascist Tide scenario. Maybe someday. At this point, I'm not holding my breath. I hope Steve is doing well and continuing with MWiF code development. An update would be nice.
