That's a good question.

Since I always play the Allies, it is the Japanese AI who always starts the first turn of the grand campaign. So for an Allied human player, the AI scripts are loaded on the start of turn one.

In the original game and up to version .1126a or B the 13 variable scripts were only for Scenarios 1 and 2. The script would be randomly picked during the loading of the scenario (if they were all in the correct folder - some players move out all the scripts but one so they can try different ones).

I don't think a lot of scripts were written for the .1127 or .1128 game versions. Those versions only apply to Scenarios 1 and 2 anyway (full map, etc.) You can use the new .exe files with the old version database to get the different scripts.

My guess and it just that a WAG, is that as soon as you have pressed the Start Scenario button, the AI decides which AI script it will choose for the scenario - if there are any to choose from.

Even if you choose the Dec 8 start, the AI has already chosen the script it will use for the game, before you make your moves in the game.

As I said, a WAG.

Pretty good WAG. This is consistent with what I know ...

Then it's a MWAG now, since you support it ;)

*M = multiple-player

We'll never really know the full story unless MichaelM or AndyMac decide to speak about it.
