[RESOLVED] Problem installing image packages in 1.09.1825.15

Post by RFalvo69 »

I just reinstalled the game on Steam after a few months to check the new Tides of War DLC. As usual, I downloaded the added images and descriptions from WarfareSims website. However, if I add the new image packs for DB3000 and CWDB the game crashes before entering a scenario (if I add only the descriptions, the game starts fine).

To make things quick, yes, I had installed the additional images before, without a hitch. I'm following the usual procedure. I downloaded the latest available (February 2026 release), I unRARed them in the correct places, and I conducted several tests. My PC is the usual one (I have Win11 and 64GB RAM). The game works fine. However, as soon as I add the images, it crashes after the initial briefings, before the scenario (any scenario) can start.

This never happened in the past.

Ideas?

Perhaps the .webp support is missing from your system?

You may solve it in the link below.

That fixed it! Thanks!

I don't know why or when my PC lost the .webp support. One of the endless Win11 updates, I guess...

If you uninstalled Edge, good chance it was removed. On a new PC, Edge is used as the default for a lot of image files. If you then add chrome and remove edge, good chance the transfer got borked up.

I do use Chrome but I never uninstalled Edge - for the very reasons you just mentioned. Sadly, OSes like Win11 are showing signs of "desperation": "Please, oh, please, use our tools or... or else." And II won't elaborate on the AI mania and how even my loo is about to "use AI." (*)

Both my daughters use MacBook Pros for their (very different) jobs. And they tell me how OSX is becoming more and more an enemy. It is a costant battle against "what it is better for you!" - this usually meaning a disappearing function and a "better way to do the thing!"

(*) OK, I'll give you an example. I bought a 500 pages book in .PDF format. I opened it and immediatly Acrobat's AI appeared like a facehugger from Alien: "This is long! Do you want a summary?"

This is not the story. The story is: I opened the documentation my lawyer sent to me about a small problem. Two pages for approvation. Acrobat's AI appeared like a facehugger from Alien: "This is long! Do you want a summary?" Two pages. And... a AI that doesn't understand that it is looking at a legal document?? This is not AI, this is desperation by Adobe...
