USSR Air Groups

War in Spain 1936-39 is the first in a new wargame series, using a new Land-Sea-Air engine inspired by War in the Pacific - Admiral’s Edition. Gameplay and realism are improved by TRUE AI and a detailed Logistics systems. A hyper detailed OOB reaches down to battalion and company level. A beautiful, hand drawn, 5 nautical mile per hex map massively increases player immersion.

USSR Air Groups

Post by Przemcio251 »

Hey

In the Main Campaign the Republicans recive a coupple of USSR air units. I just noticed they do not get any replacement planes for those air groups as USSR aircraft replacement pools dosen't get any aircraft.

I started reciving I-15 Chatos into the Republican pools but it cannot be used to replace losses in USSR units or am i missing something???

Is this intentional or am i missing something???

Right Q-ball helped it looks like i need to create a random number of republican replacement air units till i get the desired type then lease the unit to USSR to replace my losses. The same has to be done with the Italian/German Air units.

Question for the designers is this intended??? as its hard to belive it is...

It looks very strange in the game. Like Spain was one of the major aircraft production countries.
Aircrafts from USSR was sent via sea as separate parties (usually 30 planes in each).
In Spain was organized the local production of I-15. Probably, some of the components for them were supplied from USSR.
From Aug 1937 till Jan 1939 in Spain was produced about 231-237 I-15.

The main problem is that Republicans get follwoing USSR units:

3 of I-15 Chatos of 12 plane each.
3 of I-16 Mosca of 12 plane each.
3 of SB2 M - 100A of 10 plane each.
2 of RZ-5 SSS of 10 plane each.

Now those units disband overtime in 1937 like those R-5 groups first then some fighters and SB-2 groups around 6 months after they arrive. Since they can't replace them from the republican pool directly and have to play with leasing the planes from the pool my understanding is that since they are different nationality groups the planes from them will go to USSR aircraft poll not the republican one after they disband.

I checked and the republican Air units, like SB 2 units arrive with just one plane in them so they need to be reinforced with planes from the pool. But since its likely the planes from disbanding USSR units will go to a different poll the Republican pool will likely be empty of the needed planes.

R-5 production runs for 3 months with 5 planes per month giving us 15 planes during the production period.

Republicans recive 3 groups of those planes with 1/9 (meaning one aircraft in each size 9 group arriving one map)... USSR has 2 such groups with total of 20 planes. If planes from disbanding USSR units will go to the USSR pool there is no way to even fill 2 of the arriving Republican groups...

I will try to briefly answer the mix of posts in this thread.

All types of aircraft on the Republican side are Spanish.
That is the first essential fact.
So even the aircraft with which the Soviet air units will arrive are Spanish.
This is so that after the disbandment of these groups, these aircraft will end up in the Spanish pool. And it was possible to use them to build Republican air units, which are usually created shortly after the Russians are disbanded.
No aircraft of the Russian unit will end up in the Russian pool. There is no Russian pool.
Also, the production of Russian aircraft always ends up in the Republican pool.
The Spanish derivatives of these aircraft (I-15 and I-16) will actually be produced in connection with history. Just look at the aviation database and you will see that there really is a Russian and also a Spanish I-15.
(production of Spanish I-16s was actually started only at the beginning of 1939, so it is not very significant),
If you want to supplement the Russian unit, it is necessary to create a replacement air group somewhere in the rear, as it was written here.

The benefit of Russian units is mainly in relatively high-quality pilots.
Who will end up in the Soviet pilot pools after disbandment, but the player cannot use them anymore.
(However, they are used temporarily, some units, especially on the I-15, are disbanded soon)
I am at your disposal for further questions on this topic.

A completely similar situation prevails with the nationalists.

All aircraft that come in units or "as" production are nationalist.

But there are (unlike the republicans) a few exceptions.
Bf109 prototypes
All JU 87 aircraft of both versions (completely all of them returned to Germany, including the broken JU 87A on landing).
Italian seaplanes S.55
He 60 and Ro.43, which operate from the decks of surface ships.
And also temporary transport aircraft S.73 and S.75
I think that's all, if I forgot something, I apologize.

Ok thanks that clarifies some things... but i just had created around 50 replacement air units to get replacements for one USSR unit ;) is this really intended?? I just hope the empty ones will dissapear next turn :)

But what about Soviet AirForce pilots who fought in Spain till 1938... is experienced pilots will dissapear with the Soviet Units how are they modeled??

So again:

Soviet aircraft pools do not exist.

Soviet pilot pools do exist.
Primarily, they will be created from disbanded units, a few pilots will also come to the pools directly from the USSR.

This pool can be used until the last Soviet air unit is disbanded.

I don't understand why you created 50 RSV ferry groups?
There are 4 types of Soviet aircraft (for Soviet air units), so 4 RSV groups are enough ....
