Building fortifications on a hex with fortifications

Post by Tigertony »

This is a query directed at the developers.

My Russians have taken the Karelian Isthmus and want to build fortifications between Leningrad and Viipuri facing Viipuri but cannot because of the fortifications already there facing Leningrad.

So I have two questions: (1) does the game engine give a unit in that hex the benefit of fortifications if attacked from Viipuri? (2) Would it be possible to modify the game engine so that additional fortifications can be built in a hex already containing them?

I suspect (hope) that the answer to (1) will be 'no' although I know that a unit in that hex can still entrench up to 4. If the answer is 'no' then I would suggest that being able to add further fortifications facing a different way would be a positive add to the game.

If the answer to (1) is yes, then (2) becomes irrelevant, but leads to another question. (3) Is there any point (benefit) to putting fortifications on more than *any* two sides of a hex?

The answer to 1) is that it will benefit from any extra entrenchment the Fortification allows, but not its defense bonuses.

3) Yes, because you only benefit from the defense bonuses if the attack comes from a fortified side.
