Air Unit Creation...is this WAD?

War in Spain 1936-39 is the first in a new wargame series, using a new Land-Sea-Air engine inspired by War in the Pacific - Admiral’s Edition. Gameplay and realism are improved by TRUE AI and a detailed Logistics systems. A hyper detailed OOB reaches down to battalion and company level. A beautiful, hand drawn, 5 nautical mile per hex map massively increases player immersion.

Air Unit Creation...is this WAD?

Post by Q-Ball »

So, maybe I am slow on the uptake, but I just figured out that you can create any size air unit, with any plane in your pool, and staff it with PILOTS. I was creating FERRY units of course, but didn't realize that the Air Unit creation allows you to create basically any unit, any time, of any size, using any plane, as long as it's in the pool. You can even make it any nationality.

Want an Italian fighter unit of Nieuports? No problemo. How about some Spanish He-112? Can do! If it's in the pool, any pool, you can make it happen

Is this completely WAD?

Or, do we need house rules to restrict this?

There are planes in the Nationalist pool, like the Loring and Airco, that are not actually used by bomber units. I can see other uses. Mostly it's OLDER plane types that there is a surplus of.

But before I go crazy, I want to make sure this is WAD, and I'm not exploiting something.

Feedback?

It's a WAD.

Of course, you can create a ferry group.
You're right.

But you can't add new pilots to it. This was to ensure that the player couldn't actually use it for combat.

But you can add experienced pilots to it...

I've never noticed that.

All of this applies to the historical version of the game, where you have the creation of new air groups disabled in your preferences.

You can effectively add new pilots to the Ferry Unit however. It's correct in that the engine only allows you to add "Veteran" pilots. But if you go to another unit, call in "New" pilots, then immediately send them to the pool, they then become "Veteran" pilots effectively.

This mechanism, even on historical play, allows players to create new combat units

If that's not the intent, this should be locked down or closed off, so that "Veteran" pilots cannot be added to a Ferry Group

So if understand dali the creation of new combat air units is not WAD... as they should never be able to recive pilots.

It sounds like it....waiting on confirmation. In the meantime in our game would use the couple I built for training only (which I have been; the only extra planes I have anyway are crap planes that are only good for training, like the Airco DH9)
