Ground Combat

War in Spain 1936-39 is the first in a new wargame series, using a new Land-Sea-Air engine inspired by War in the Pacific - Admiral’s Edition. Gameplay and realism are improved by TRUE AI and a detailed Logistics systems. A hyper detailed OOB reaches down to battalion and company level. A beautiful, hand drawn, 5 nautical mile per hex map massively increases player immersion.

Ground Combat

Post by Przemcio251 »

Hey

Im struggeling to understand how ground combat works... im playing the Republicans and when i have the possibility i combine odd Bn and Coy into Regiments when the HQ becomes avaliable on the other hand my opponent troops are usually bn/coy size with just a few of rgt or div size.

I noticed off course that when i fight such a group of smaller size units the report says lets say 3 out of 10 those units forts are brought down to 0 but the but still the report says that enemy highest fort in the hex is let's say 3...

My question is this:

- dose that mean that in current system when fighting such a group of small bn sized units when part of them losses the forts the group still is treated as having forts of highest number of a unit in the hex has?

- dose units that forts which are down to 0 will rebuild them over time while other friendly units forts are reduced during the fighting? becouse if yes it will mean stacking enough small units in a hex will mean that the forts will never be reduced to all of them becouse by the time all units forts will be down to 0 the units that were reduced earlier will rebuild theirs...

The fort level of any unit can not go below the fort size of an owned base in hex.
For units that have a higher fort level than the base or the base is not your base the fort levels can be lowered by combat for each unit.
It does not matter if the unit is a combined combat group like a division or BDE.
Individual fort levels owned by units themselves can be reduced for each unit while other units in the same DIV or BDE can have higher fort levels.

Yes, unit will rebuild forts on their own but this depends on the unit and the terrain.
Some terrain like urban are assumed to have simple fortifications to be build quickly and thus these are included in the terrain combat modifiers.
Other terrain like forest will not allow high fort levels to be build by units in the field. Only a base and engineers can build forts in such terrain.
There is a table of forts in the manual somewhere to tell how much units can build in terrain by themselves.

So having a lot of units will not grant the highest fort level to all of them. Each unit will defend with the fort level it has for itself.
Only a base can provide the built fort level to all units in hex.
The only responsible person. (Unless I can frame someone else)

Thanks...

I had an ongoing battle in a hex without any base (my opponent retreated) which looked little odd as my guys were unable to reduce the forts of all enemy units to 0... before it happend the units whose forts were reduced earlier were able to rebuild them...
