Naval Combat Battle Results Screen... lies?

Post by reggimann »

I've always found the battle results screen in all AGEOD titles strange. Little makes sense, from a user experience standpoint at least. The manual has only a small paragraph dedicated to this vital screen.

Having fought it out with the Spanish navy as the Brits I wanted to know a simple thing from the report below: Which of my ships have been sunk?

The battle screen tells me only that two of my ships were sunk. The manual states, that the red -2 next to the ship icon is the number of ships (technically "elements") that were destroyed. The report has no section dedicated to these losses, no crossed out ships or similiar. So I search and search. I try to calculate the hits given and taken and I even screw around with the incomprehensible range data. Then I ask myself: Did ships really sink?

I loaded up a backup save, tallied all ships in this fleet and their names, loaded up the next turn above and compared. They are all there. No ship was sunk. Hits were taken, and these hits I can comprehend. But why does the game think two of my ships were sunk?

If anyone could shed some light on this, I would appreciate it.

Also, the manual states that ships have to be in port to rearm and repair. All my ships from the above battle were rearmed (100% ammo) and repaired (most strength points restored) within one turn, sitting in the Bay of Biscay.

What am I missing?

tAKE A LOOK at the individual days of the battle upper left, I think its start S, day 1 and end E etc. look for a red line through your ships. They dont make it easy though!

In Ageod games there is a logs folder, includes a battle log with details.
