[TWEAK][B1877] CTDs

Post by Knightpawn »

While in double flame I am getting random CTDs in the last built (which is otherwise quite nice as a game experience). I have not discerned a pattern when they happen and as a result I am not sure what to upload as reference material. Any guidance welcomed

Send a scenario where it reliably happens

To be sure: It is not "reliable" in the sense that it occurs, say, once in a 2 hrs session. Seldom but it does happen. I dont remember it happing before. Do you wish the exceptions log as well?

Yes please, also check the event viewer log, there might be some information there about the crashes related to Command

In your scenario I had CTDs when fighting the swarm.

Random and nothing in the event viewer.

I have had few CTD is in "Air Sea Battle 2027" and it does not indeed anything in the logs when it crashes.

CTDs keep appearing slightly more frequently in 1877. While unable to spot a consistent pattern at least two of them happened when an enemy unit was destroyed (first a sub, then an a/c)

[UPDATE] I think I have a pattern. CTDs occur when in double flame I press space to freeze / restart the time. Not each time when I use space. But pressing space seems like a necessary condition for the CTD

I got one CTD, this time with message. The CTD happens after clicking on OK.

Fighting the swarm in Knightpawn's scenario as commented above, in the save uploaded and running at double flame.

Note that it may happen or not, with or without message, and the moment is variable.

Also destroying the swarm may take a while.

I am very persistently trying to reproduce this CTD on B1877, without success so far.

1) Is anyone else able to reproduce this?

2) Is this CTD happening specifically on this scenario, or also others? If yes, which others?

Sorry, you mean the file uploaded by Knightpawn? Do I create another thread with the .NET CTD?

I just had another CTD, and this exception in the log.

I had 2-3 CTDs recently across a couple of scenarios - one of which I recall was Transient's Somalian Soiree 2031 from the workshop. I can second Knightpawn's comment about it seemingly only happening at high time acceleration when pressing space to pause/unpause. No idea how to reproduce it as it only happened every couple of hours and I tend to pause a lot, but it doesn't seem like an intensive scenario is necessary.

Thank you, that is quite helpful. We will attempt to "harden" these sections for the next update.

Another CTD, no message on the screen, nothing in the Event viewer.

This exception in the log. Cannot provide a save, just running at double flame, the only order to the subs was to move at flank speed.

But I cannot reproduce it.

Did you notice if you pressed space to pause - unpause? For my case this is clearly the trigger when it happens

I never press the hotkey, always the button on the top left with the mouse.

But I do not think I was pausing/unpausing the simulation.

Can you search for this exception in the logs folder?

Notepad++ is very useful for this. Search...Find in files.

This is the first time this exception happens here.

NFZ Baltic, 2022 is another scenario prone to cause CMO CTDs. 6 this morning.

Also fuse exceptions, can post a save, but nothing is reproducible, is random.

May be anecdotal, but for me CTDs are less frequent in 1892 while still associated with pressing spacebar to pause game running in double flame.

May you look for them in the reliability monitor?

Click on the white cross with red circle each day you have one of those crosses.

What do you see in the technical details?

ChatGPT on how to run the reliability monitor.

Method 1: Run command (fastest)
Press Windows key + R

Type:

perfmon /rel
Press Enter

Method 2: From Control Panel
Open Control Panel
Go to System and Security
Select Security and Maintenance
Expand Maintenance
Click View reliability history

Method 3: Search
Press the Windows key

Search for:

Reliability Monitor

or

View reliability history
Open the result.

Reliability Monitor shows a timeline of application crashes, Windows errors, hardware failures, and updates, with a stability score from 1–10.

Here is a save of the scenario in question, 2 CTDs in 2 tries today with this save. Run at double flame.

The russian side just started the attack, NATO tries to defend, as a result a lot of missiles are in the air. The simulation is slow and CMO may be unresponsive, at least in my laptop.

When you load it there are 2 grey lines, that I do not know from where they came from, they will disappear when you start the simulation.

The message of defeat and end of scenario will appear, but you have to continue, the CTD could happen later, it may take a while.

Exceptions in the log in the first CTD, all of them just 1 time.
