Nuclear Bombardment....is this WAD?

War in Spain 1936-39 is the first in a new wargame series, using a new Land-Sea-Air engine inspired by War in the Pacific - Admiral’s Edition. Gameplay and realism are improved by TRUE AI and a detailed Logistics systems. A hyper detailed OOB reaches down to battalion and company level. A beautiful, hand drawn, 5 nautical mile per hex map massively increases player immersion.

Howdy! In my ongoing PBEM, I ordered a bombardment of Lamiaco; this is an airbase just east of Bilbao, 2 hexes off the water (I finally figured out how to order a TF to one hex, and have it bombard a different hex inland). I have no problem with Naval ships reaching 5 miles inland to bombard something, particularly since 11in guns have an effective range greater than 5 miles.

I set the 2 German CAs (Admiral Scheer and Deutschland) on Bombard and this is the result:

TF 12 bombarding at 102, 56 Lamiaco - 04:00

I-15 Chatos: 10 destroyed, 4 damaged
I-16 typ5 Mosca: 21 destroyed, 12 damaged

Guns lost: 0 disabled, 0 destroyed

Airbase Hits: 323
Supply destroyed: 4525
Fuel destroyed: 9

He 60 D acting as a spotter for CA Admiral Scheer

The airbase was 80% damaged, and pretty much all the planes are destroyed; 39 losses are reported, that's 3 12-plane squadrons up in smoke. Worse, I'm not sure he can move them (Bilbao is cut-off from the rest of Spain)

Is this WAD? Or is this bombardment too powerful of an airbase?

Bombarding ground units doesn't produce this kind of result

I don't think it's WAD.
Aircraft on the coast and islands are very vulnerable.
This is of course related to the future development of other parts from the Pacific.
And the 12x28cm combination is quite a lot of power, especially for SCW.

(and moreover, the reporting of results can be quite exaggerated, that's exactly how it is in this engine)

Thanks! FYI, the results are not exaggerated; my opponent confirmed that 3 12 plane squadrons were completely destroyed

And IMO I should've been able to damage some planes and the airstrip; it is a coastal airfield, and is vulnerable. But this scale of destruction was way too much, IMO, even with 2 modern German ships firing

I was on the recieving end... and yes all my planes on the field were destroyed...

Should be noted that bombarding ground units is fine.......not at all overpowered

It's only on the airbase bombardment, that needs to be toned down, IMO, in an update (though it should still hurt)

Sorry, we're on a PBEM so way past that time, don't have the saves for that Bombardment

Sorry, we're on a PBEM so way past that time, don't have the saves for that Bombardment
There should be an auto save in your save folder. Start saving if can....GP

We can create a few own AF bombardment cases with these 2 ships and review.
The only responsible person. (Unless I can frame someone else)

An update to this......after this nuclear bombardment, I bombarded the hex several times with both German and Spanish surface ships. The only damage was to ground units, and nothing spectacular; usually killed some vehicles and maybe 100 guys each round. Totally reasonable outcomes. But no hits to the airbase at all.

Przemek moved some planes to the hex, and the first bombardment after he did this, we get this result:

Another nuclear bombardment....this was from a single German cruiser (the Deutschland), and from the exact spot where all the bombardments have been going from. The airbase is shut down again.

So, this means:

1. Why are there nuclear bombardments only when there are air units on the airbase?
2. Why won't the airbase suffer any damage from bombardment when there are not air units there?

It's not making sense, IMO........what should happen is some damage to the airstrip periodically

Also, not sure if it's related, but you can order ARTILLERY to hit a port or airbase.....but doesn't seem to do anything. I would think Artillery, located in the same hex as an airbase or port, could do some damage there

We can check that bomb the place with exactly one ship and save the results for lets say 5 or 6 days then i will move some air unit there and we can compare the result ;)
