Help with Display Issues

Post by Major Shane »

I played this game through to USA victory from 2016 to 2022. After 4 years, I've tried to reload WITPAE and play again. I have two display issues that are causing me problems. Does anyone have any suggestions to resolve my problems?

Background:
- I'm running WITPAE, Version 1.8.11.28.4.
- My command switches are: –altFont –cpu2 –multiaudio –dd_sw -skipVideo -deepColor -f -px1920 –py1200.
- My computer info is: Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-N305 (1.80 GHz), RAM 32.0 GB (31.7 GB usable), Graphics card - - Intel(R) UHD Graphics (128 MB), Storage 168 GB of 932 GB used, System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

Issues:
1. I have pink background for all text making almost impossible to read anything.
2. Images associated with the user interface boxes are blurred out and can't be seen.

I've attached a photo that show both problems.

Thanks in avance

You have forgotten about setting the switches in your shortcut to make the game work with modern hardware and OS upgrades. You can do that with the utility SeaBee Alpha https://forums.matrixgames.com/viewtopic.php?t=320302.
If you prefer to do it by typing in the switches yourself, look at the stickied 'Slow Performance' thread for illustrations and descriptions of what the switches do.
And if you did the install using the base 2009 game updated by version 1126, you must get rid of the shortcut installed by the game on your desktop. It points to "autorun.exe" which is a defunct menu program. You need to find the game's .exe file, right click on it and choose "Create Shortcut", then drag or copy that shortcut to your desktop.

BBfanboy, thanks for your help. You recommendation about the shortcut was spot on. I wasn't able to use SeeBee but I did find a post with a command switch line that worked. https://forums.matrixgames.com/viewtopi ... k#p5255717

You're welcome. You may want to play with your preference settings (second button at the top of the screen) to see what you like and what you don't. Be aware that setting a lot of overlays on the map (things like range circles, hexside details, hexside ownership, patrol wedges or zone limits, etc) can slow down the scrolling a lot because with each shift of one hex the game has to recalculate all those parameters and move them with the base map image.
You can speed up or slow down the combat animations by changing the time the messages appear. I use 1.0 seconds for Naval/Sub related combat animations so I can better assess combat damage from the messages, but set other replays to 0.5 seconds for a quick peek or 0.0 seconds to skip them completely ( e.g. naval bombardments).
