1939 vs. AI(Axis), highest difficulty: Italy in Paris

Post by Feinder »

Is it just dumb luck or something intentional, that my AI(Axis) opponent, keep capturing Paris with an Italian unit?

I feel that it's important for Germany to capture Paris for 1000pt bump.
Italy having a surge is, well, amusing, but I don't think is useful in the long-run.
I've tried backing it up the game a turn or three, but it keeps zooming in with an Italian Corps. Even when there are (many) other available German units to capture Paris.

I've replayed the few turns, several times at this point, trying to allow Germany to capture Paris. But AI keeps using the d_mn Italian Corps.

Is there any chance that's "by design" for the AI, to give Italy a bump? (if so, I'm wasting my time on trying to get Germany to capture).

You play with Axis sometimes against the allied AI and you develop the Italians sometimes you have conquered Paris with the Italians by playing as them then and only then have you taught the AI to do it.This only happens at high levels of play

It's not, it's just the way things must have gone, as normally Italian units will be too far away to do this.

Thanks Bill. There was one Italian unit that was near Paris and it kept moving in. So I ended up swapping sides, playing a good Axis turn, including a German capture of Paris, then flipping back to Allies. During it's one turn as Allies, AI did some "interesting" things with my units (most trying to upgrade the heck out of everything). But other than that, I was able to set things to right, and resume my game as Allied.

Great, and I was thinking that might be the right thing to do, so I'm glad you did it.
