Gary Grigsby’s Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich - Update v1.06.101

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

Gary Grigsby’s Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich - Update v1.06.101

Post by Sandrasy »

Hello hello everyone 👋🏻

We are happy to announce a new update for the game! To access this, download it from the File Downloads section of Gary Grigsby's Eagle Day to Bombing the Reich in your My Page tab on the Matrix website or by clicking the link HERE. Changelog below:

v1.06.101 – May 2, 2026
Note: version 1.06.101 will allow you to continue with any saved games you started with 1.06.66 or higher. It is recommended that you complete the reaction phase of your current game before loading it with 1.06.101.

• Extensive work on the AI interception and combat code to fix some old bugs and add some defending side AI smarts to reduce the number of intercepting groups attempting to bunch-up and target stragglers or enemy fighter types that outclass them. Defender player should be aware that changing the doctrine of your interceptors during the reaction phase is good gameplay that should not be overlooked.
• Slight improvements to night fighting engagement chances.
• Nightfighters that use “Schräge Musik” cannons will get a message stating when they are being used (level 2 message).
• When moving detached shuttle units, a line will be drawn back to their original home base to facilitate recombining with parent unit.
• Minor UI improvements
• Removed the annoying screen blip that happens when you pan through weather zones or click menu buttons. This was called from an old screen refresh routine that appears to be redundant. I don’t see any issues and hopefully this is true across all customer platforms.

Warning: to ensure that your current PBEM games will work with the patch, please back up a copy of your btruser.dat file before you install the patch. The btruser.dat file can be found in the "DAT" subfolder of your main game folder (usually Matrix Games/Gary Grigsbys Eagle Day to Bombing the Reich).

Excellent. Thank you guys.

I still would appreciate, if you could allow for the data export into CSV-Files for Status Analytics via Excel.
Just a simple data dump button would be perfect.

Cheers

Thank you, appreciate the continued updates of these older Games, I was curious about the C-MANO/CMO old WW2 to 1979 era database would it be possible /may I suggest/have you /Matrix Games Considered making a new /improved/Expanded
BoB /BTR Sim with that database using the similar format layout of Gary Grigsby BoB/BTR with expanded events? Featuring Notable Events/headlines from on any given day at the beginning of the day Turn? it could also feature Convoy Battles/both Air and Sea/Expanded Russian front/ Air war in the East Air/Sea Battles /Convoy Protection/ Carriers /War in the Pacific Air/Carrier /ASW Warfare/Convoy attack/ Protection attack/expanded dates into 1946 or 1947 full campaign etc. Possibly a lot of good potential there. Thank you again.

I approached Matrix a couple of years ago about a "new and proved" ED/BTR. The response was "if and when" they do it it will be under the CMO umbrella.

CMO provided the inspiration to add some of the new features of the EDBTR resurrection project like tracking fuel/rearm and launch/readiness time for the defending side.

I can't imagine playing the WW2 strategic bombing campaign or even Battle of Britain on the CMO platform though... whew!

With version 1.06.101 the nuts and bolts of the system is in pretty good shape I think. If the EDBTR action phase data could be ported real-time over to a visual 3D environment like Tacview with wireframe models of WW2 aircraft and accurate terrain now that would be something.

Hi Simovitch,

Well done on getting out another update, your work is always appreciated and respected. I am 10 turns in and though I haven't attacked any of the 8th AF raids as of yet (they have just hit some clusters in Belgium that I have largely ignored due to the heavy ftr escort, I'll wait for them to come deeper) the day combat seems to be pretty good with a reasonable balance; Playing as Axis I usually can bet 3 or 4:1 losses due to me hitting flak damaged stragglers as I chase raids. However, and I will probably regret saying this ... , Nght Ftr intercepts and effectiveness may be a bit too good ( first time I've said that in about a decade!). First allied raid on Essen lost 62 x 4E Bmbrs, Second large twin pronged raid on Hamburg and and Frankfurt resulted in 95 x Bmbrs shot down (mostly by Nftrs), about a dozen in the Frankfurt raid and over 80 in the Hamburg raid! Conditions were admittedly good for the Nftrs, 12-16% light, minimal cloud cover and basically full strength well rested Nftr gps, and over 300 Nftrs involved. More than half the intercepts were double kills (ie two x Nftr engaged and shot down two Bmbrs). Axis lost 5 acft in the that night battle. Will keep playing and provide feedback as you require. For your consideration.

Thanks as always,

Cheers, AKL

Hello,

i have played with the new patch 2 turns, as a German
the 8/23/1943 and 8/24/1943

I think, i have destroyed the british Bomber Command.
On 8/23/1943 the target was Essen, the Bomber Command lost 58 Plains
On 8/24/1943 the target was Frankfurt and Essen, the Bomber Command lost 98 Plains

I think Akl is right, the German Night Fighter are too strong now.
Before this Patch, i would normally destroyed between 5 and 30 enemy

Mfg

Morning Simovitch,

Quick update, have an Axis and Allied Campaign running under this version. Game currently at 02/09/1943 (15 Turns in). Day combat seems on target though I haven't yet tried a mass assault on a B17 raid, will probably occur when they go for the UFACs in the North. Night combat does seem a bit of a joy for the Axis and tougher as the Allied player. In the Axis game I have already downed 388 x 4E bmbrs ... 9 out of 10 of these were through sightings over cities, particularly when they are illuminated by flak, 1 out of 10 is a radar intercept. Not sure if this is WAD. As an allied player I can cope through more feint raids etc to disperse the NFTR effort (have lost 49 acft). For your consideration.

"Follow" button

I notice that the Follow option no longer appears when planning Recon and Night bomber missions.

Is there any chance it could be restored, please?
The Nazis entered this war under the rather childish delusion that they were going to bomb everyone else, and nobody was going to bomb them. They sowed the wind, and now they are going to reap the whirlwind.

With the new official 1.06.101 i'm seeing it working fine for all raids.

After you finish the plot, start a new mission, select a primary target, and select follow. The button will only appear if there is actually a set of waypoints to follow from a previous mission.
