Laser Designators are not illuminating the target

Post by JuhaM »

Hello,

is it just me doing something wrong?

The SOF guys are in place with a clear LOS to the target. Laser Designators are operating. Paveways are in the air.

Why is the target not illuminated? All thebombs miss with no unit affected.

Best regards,

Juha

It seems it depends on the location.

After several tries it is destroyed.

Never when it is stopped in the current place, I had to order the sub to move in the port to get an impact.

I think I never used LOS before.

Selecting Visual/EO/Laser as Horizon, and 0 as target altitude, like the sub.

The SOF can see it, but there are spaces not shaded between them and the sub, so the laser cannot point to the sub?

Thank you very much for your effort and explaining!

I understand this now and learned something about the mechanics as well!

I shall tweak with the editor just a bit so that I can go in with the Northern Fury scenarios,

Best regards,

Juha

Not sure I get it. If point a can see point b then it necessary follows that a laser at point a can illuminate point b, regardless of what what is the case in the interim space.

JuhaM, Knightpawn.

Note that I am asking if that may be the reason :)

Edit2: no, laser pointing and unshaded space. Why only one is pointing the laser?

So, do we have a problem or do we not have a problem? I am confused now.

The question is why the sub, in her current position, is not illuminated by the lasers of the SF units, when they are spotting it, according to the LOS tool.

This video is changing the targets of the guided bombs in the save posted by JuhaM.

Instead of the 4 bombs directed to the sub, all will fail if you run it, launched 3, one the sub and another one to each surface ship.

The surface ships are illuminated and the bombs impact in them, but the one directed to the sub fails. The sub is only damaged by one of the other bombs, but that is not the point.

Why a surfaced sub is different from a ship? In the current position, because if the sub moves to the North in the port is illuminated (only after several tries though).

I second that. By coincidence I just played this scenario. It plays as if a surfaced sub is not a "valid target" for illumination. The other ships are.

This works fine in a vacuum so I suspect it has something to do with the poor LOS and the amount of nearby targets

Interesting. I will reshuffle the position of the targets in the editor and see what happens

Any update on this? I'm still not clear on whether there is a mechanics bug present.

The laser designation vs a surfaced sub works in another scenario, different Nighthawk and Mk82.

Tested in the previous laptop HD with old versions of CMO. I think it is an old bug.

In this scenario is not working since 1463, happens exactly the same than with the last beta.

In the previous I have, 1328.18, happens the following. The laser designation is just an instant for the surfaced sub. For the nearby ship, it may be also an instant or continuous before the impact.

The dbs also changed, not sure is a db or CMO problem.
