Am I out of luck with BTR...?

Post by Cameraman »

I think I might be unable to get BTR to run properly on my new laptop...

I started with a fresh copy of 1.00, could not find where to put the updates on my computer.
I have all the various updates, and wanted to run 1.06x5, I am open to playing newer versions...

So I started a test game with 1.00, the background of all the text is PINK...

Trying to build raids, and no matter what button I press, there's a lag of several seconds (up to 15 seconds)
on EVERY button press... took me almost 10 minutes to build ONE raid...

Seems like BTR won't play nice with Windows 11, i7 processor, 32GB RAM

Also, why are the newest modded versions about 60 turns shorter on the 1943 long campaign...?

Version 1.00 should be shunned and exiled to the cyber-wasteland. Matrix will likely make the current version the legacy version to replace 1.00.

First, patch up to 1.06.101 and take some time to read the "whatsnew" document. EDBTR is an old horse and will not run well on any computer that has an OS newer than Windows 7 unless you:

1. run the game with the "Use Windowed mode" button highlighted in the options menu. Sometimes you need to run the game as administrator for this to work. "set direct draw software emulation" usually helps as a combo with Windowed mode.

or:

2. run the game non-windowed through Dxwnd. see this post: https://forums.matrixgames.com/viewtopic.php?t=333695

This forum has a boatload of info to help with technical glitches. There are a few posts about the pink text issue.

About the Campaign length. Since the game timeline flows with the historical WW2 frontline more or less, there was no point extending the game past April, 1945. With research the Axis should have plenty of jets by then to try and reduce the AS number, but the best bet for the Axis is sudden death victory around September 1944. The exception is the "Jet age" scenario which will carry the war into June 1945.

I have got it going on a newish laptop under windows 11, similar if not the same as your spec.

I am using DXwnd, some of the tips on using it(DXwnd) are a little out of date but I have got it going.
