At the begining of Turn 1 I used the Allied Air Force to bombard Japanese targets and my friendly losses were very heavy, so for turn 2 I assigned all fighters to Air Superiority and all bombers to Interdiction while only using the Navy to bombard.

I failed to get ashore at Ariake Bay before the turn ended. While TOAW allows coast batteries to shell embarked units every round of the attackers turn and their turn, the embarked units use 50% of a turn to make an amphibious assault and only get one round to make an amphibious assault. If the attack fails, the embarked units are unable to move or attack again that turn. These aspects seem to give an advantage to the defending side.

Lots of what I guess are kamikaze attacks on turn 1. I notice the US doesn't have any AAA units at their airfields.

Air Report from Turn 2. My losses seem high compared to the Air Superiority Level and the expected effectiveness of the Japanese Air Force at this point in time.

Follow up waves suffer heavy casualties and some are destoyed on the way in to the beaches. Here are a couple units once they get ashore:

Beachheads are surrounded by strong and aggressive Japanese units.

The beachhead at Miyazaki is contained and it is unlikely it can hold out much longer.

At Kushikino I've taken to landing reinforcements away from the beaches in order to avoid the enemy coast batteries. The supply point here has been overrun and the landing force is now out of supply.

After battling to secure the Supply Point at Kushikino, I was able to push out from the beachhead and cut thru to Kagoshima and capture the only Jap Supply Point in the area. This will cut off the peninsula south of the combat lines and make it easier to clear. That would give me about 1/3 of what is needed for victory.

Japanese seem strong for 1945 but maybe makes for a good game.

Definitely more interesting than having US assault forces wiped out before they land.
