Japanese advances in China cause concern in US?

Did this rule change in a recent patch? My units are not within 2 of Chunkking or Sian (see screenshot). Would be nice if this was shown on the map and this type of event can tilt the game towards allies.

Kweichow is the one that catches everyone out. Any advance within 2 hexes of it triggers both Comm China & the USA. And / or 3 hexes of Yenan.
