Still Coming up to Speed on this excellent title

Post by scout1 »

Got a few questions on several topics that aren't clear to me yet ......

A/H pretty much spend the entire game (my experience) hungry which I'm assuming hits NM continuously ....
Is there a means to overcome this ?

Is there any means to track NM loss per turn to the Germans due to the Allied blockade ? Or to England due to CP convoy raiding ?

One enemy unit adjacent to a port blocks it providing supply to other friendly land units (at least the manual says so). Does it also block the transfer of MPP's as well it it is part of the convoy route ?

I'm sure, more questions to come ......

As for the hunger things, A/H has to retake ground in Galicia. I don't remember the exact hex.

I seem to recall in my last play-through that once the Central Powers had retaken every location in Galicia save for Tarnopol and the nearby oilfield hex, the grain-shortage hunger messages finally ceased. Maybe it helped that Austria had gobbled up almost half of Poland by then as well.

Check out the Strategy Guide as it gives the figures for the NM loss per turn by the blockade, and much, much more.

Only if a blockade by 2 naval units reduces the port's strength below 5.

Thanks for the insight ... I had previously only skimmed the Strategy Guide ....

It clearly answered my question regarding the blocking NM pts by hex, 10 NM for the Distant one and 20 NM for the Northern one ..... Does it matter at all whether the naval unit is a surface vessel or pigboat ? I haven't played the entente much, do the vessels expend supply while blockading ?

I didn't see (or missed) the NM impact for the german vessels in the unrestricted warfare hexes to the NW and SW of Britain per hex. I have noticed that a german pigboat in silent mode gets credit for NM impact in these hexes. Is there any penalty whether in silent vs hunt as to NM impact ? I realize in silent mode they won't cause a loss of MMP as they aren't raiding the convoy lane .....

Anything defining the land hex/hexes in NE A/H which result in hunger in A/H if lost to the russians ? Also what's the NM impact while this occurs against the A/H ?

Thanks

Hi scout1 - to answer your questions above:

1) any naval unit from either side on one of the Entente blockade hexes will trigger the NM penalty for Germany. This includes naval mines. No loss of supply.

2) it makes no difference is a sub is in silent or hunt mode in terms of triggering unrestricted naval warfare against Britain. A German naval unit simply has to be on or adjacent to one NM hexes west of Britain to incur NM costs for Britain and a NM bonus for Germany. However, to reduce the supply level of UK west coast ports, a German naval unit must be on top of one of those hexes. If Glasgow, Liverpool or Bristol fall below 5 level supply, convoys to that port will shut down until unresricted naval warfare ceases and the port recovers sufficient strength to return to level 5.

3) To incur the 50 NM per turn hunger penalty against Austria-Hungary, the Russians have to occupy either the Galician Oilfields or Stanislaw.

Check out the National Morale EVents crib sheet I posted in this Forum on June 19 2021 for a complete list of NM events for all powers.

Thanks, that crip sheet is very helpful ....

One clarification above about the pigboats and unrestricted warfare / supply hits on England ....
I thought you had to have the pigboat directly on a marked hex for unrestricted warfare where to impact supply it can either be one or one hex off the convoy route (red line) ..... The description above sounds reverse to this ... Did I misread, misunderstand or not realizing how it works along ?
