Japanese amphib task force can't unload at Shortlands

Post by tonybot »

I have been playing a few years and have never encountered this issue. I have tried 2 different amphib task forces for a landing on the Shortlands, but they either of them won't unload even though it's unguarded. I have an amphib tf with 2 PB, 1 xAk-t and 1 xAK trying to unload the I/66th Nav Gd. The previous TF was 3 PB, 2xAK trying to unload the III/66th Nav Gd. The task forces just sit there and do nothing. It never even gets to the TF unloading phase. Opponents Subs are torpedoing my ships!

A couple of shot-in-the-dark thoughts:
Are you calling the TF 'Amphibious" because it has troops aboard or did you ensure it has the mission type "Amphibious" which must be set before loading it?
Are you using the map that came with that game version or did you swap in one of the prettier maps which may have differences in the position of bases? Map Art and Map Data must be matched to use them.

Having the same issue in my game---i think it might have to do with the stacking limits mod as for some reason the shortlands base is showing no stacking limit at all while most of the bases in that area seem to have a 35k stacking limit i think it is....all the other bases seem to have the limit but i think the mod missed that base it looks like...not sure.

Im using a map mod and stacking mod and so far thats the only base i have noticed an issue with---and it appears due to the stacking mod since it has no number listed while all others do.

For some reason I can't seem to get a screen shot. I tried using print screen button it doesn't seem to work it just exits the game and there's nothing to paste. Can't use snipping tool either. I'm using v1.8.11.26a and the Topo Map Project (X)_u1 map. Shortcut is "C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -altFont -skipVideo –cpu4 –multiaudio -deepColor -dd_sw -px1600 -py900. My display is 1920 x 1080, scale is set to 125%, orientation landscape on a Dell laptop with 32GB of memory, Yes, I checked that it is an amphibious TF. I've never used the Editor is that a different exe? Also, I'm playing scenario 2 War in the Pacific Hakko Ichiu

Aha! I've just noticed in the Editor the coordinates for Shortlands is x109 y131 but it is named Buin on the map, but Shortlands on the map has x110 y132?

If I understand correctly, you are using an extended map with a standard map scenario - you mention scen 002.

Sometime in this game's distant past, Buin wasn't represented at all, just the Shortlands. At some point they got separated into two locations which differed in certain versions. Shortlands is at hex coordinates 110,132 in version 11.27 but at 109,131 in 11.26. So you like BBfanboy suggested you might be using a older map mod not compatible with the splitting of Buin and the Shortlands into two different locations. Since you can't get a screenshot in the traditional way while the game is running, I suppose you could try snapping a photo of what's appearing on your monitor with a mobile phone. I know that's kinda clumsy. But it's been done before. :)

I removed the mod and Buin has the old Shortlands name beside it, but it's still Buin base at 109 131 . Shortlands is still as separate island in 110 132. I will try and get a screen shot.

Three things must be in tune - map files, scenario files and the pwhexdat file in the root folder (which governs stacking limits, hex sides types, terrain type, roads and railroads and whether a hex can be amphib assaulted or not plus other things). Version of the game engine doesn't matter (except as indicator for stock scenario versions), esp. if playing a mod. Many mods come with their specific pwhexdat file.

I'm not entirely sure you can do that and expect the game to work. The map does not fix the location, that comes from the scenario using the editor but some stuff cannot be change once a scenario has started. I'd start again.
