New Scenario: Amphibious Assault on Kharg Island (2026)

Re: New Scenario: Amphibious Assault on Kharg Island (2026)
This is getting close to being finished.
I have added a few more End of Game for non-compliance functions toward the beginning of the game.
I have changed the Civilians and Oil to be Friendly with Iran. Even though I did that, Iran still fired on the civilian. If I change it to Tight, then they are hesitant to later fire on the US forces. So, I had to leave it as Free. I spent most of yesterday playing with it, and couldn't get it to work all of the time. Finally, I gave up and simply moved the Civilian unit out of the way.
I do need help with this, however: I added images for the Introduction and the Briefing. They are perfectly fine if viewed through the Editor. But, when the Game is played, neither appear. I am not an "image guy", so I don't know too much about the process. Can you tell me why it shows up one way, but not the other? What do I need yo do to make it work?
Thanks again for the help that both of you have offered.

The scenario you uploaded is named beta 4, the zip is beta 5. I guess it is the correct one by the date and the missing pics.
I do not see the pics, editor or normal play.
The links are directed to your computer.
The simplest way is to upload the pics somewhere and copy/paste the link in the editor for the description and briefing. This site for example.
https://imgur.com/upload
You may also include the pics with the scen file in the zip file, they will be extracted to the same folder.
Correcaminos posted the same scenario using both methods, so you may see how he did it.

Re: New Scenario: Amphibious Assault on Kharg Island (2026)
Yes, the uploaded zipped file is called Beta 5, but the file itself is erroneously still called Beta 4. That is my mistake. It is the correct one, however.
I'll try to work with the images now. I am admittedly not very good with those things.
Thanks again.

Re: New Scenario: Amphibious Assault on Kharg Island (2026)
After seeing Correcaminos' scenario, mine pales in comparison. Wow! It's the best ever.
In fact, the comparison of these two scenarios sort of reminds me of that scene from Crocodile Dundee where the group of thugs pulls a switchblade out in a robbery attempt and Sue tells Nick to, "Watch out, Nick, he has a knife." Unfazed, Nick calmly says, "That's not a knife." He then pulls out his Outback Bowie Knife and says, "This is a knife." Upon seeing that, the thugs run away. And, after seeing Correcaminos' scenario, I want to say the same thing.

Correcaminos' scenarios are quite good indeed, not only visually, also entertaining and engaging. I recommend you all of them.
I enjoyed a lot those movies, should watch them again
In that scene they learnt a lesson, next time they will bring guns...

Re: New Scenario: Amphibious Assault on Kharg Island (2026)
I did a second pass, after your introducing the Civilians. I did not fire upon yellow units, except where they properly identified as military unit (but not waiting for flag). So if a yellow unit was of unknown side but classified as infantry, i would open fire. The result was I got a surrender before even landing the ospreys. This means that the point system is very generous for US. My approach would be to allocate minimum points for killing land units (eg +1 instead +10 for IRGC) and allocate generous points upon achieving certain milestones. Eg. Sub reaches area, recon lands, split the island in three sectors and allocate points for occupation of each sector etc.
On a side note: I gave night vision and binoculars to recon and they become a reliable recon indeed!

I will try that. In Marine units I did not notice any change regarding the night vision, not the binoculars.
It does not make much sense a recon unit only with the naked eyes as sensors.
Re: New Scenario: Amphibious Assault on Kharg Island (2026)
Knightpawn,
Thanks for the observation, and suggestion regarding the targeting of YELLOW-colored targets. I have played the scenario many ways, and the best way, in my opinion, is to limit the action toward targeting only RED-colored targets. It makes it far more exciting. Obviously, a YELLOW means that it isn't fully identified (at least as far as the game is concerned) and that serves to restrict the attacks, When doing this, it makes it much more difficult. We both know that from playing the game many times that units are either the enemy or civilian, so it's easy for the game player to go ahead and target the YELLOW unit as being the enemy, and treat it as being RED. The rules should be enough to keep the game player from doing that. Afterall, the game player would just be depriving himself of competitiveness if he did so. That's my opinion for now, but I am open for further discussion. As I said, I have played it both ways, and it is better doing my way but, again, that's only my opinion.
Another thing that I have done is I am moving some of the civilians around and comingling them with Iranian units. I've noticed that the initial aerial attacks are usually made against units such as AAA, radar units and SAMs. Therefore, I have been using some civilian units as human shields. This generally results in about 5 civilians being killed per scenario, and that further reduces the game player's score. I did try it by also placing the civilians commingled with IRGC units, but the US ground seemed to have no trouble firing only at the IRGC units, so that doesn't seem to make any difference. Therefore, the civilians will just be human shields for the mobile units.
BTW, I scrapped the image idea, but not because I couldn't figure out how to do it. I did so because the scenario just looks lame when compared to Correcaminos' scenarios. I just can't do that. <lol>

Re: New Scenario: Amphibious Assault on Kharg Island (2026)
Tested beta 5 with the limited OoB commented several times.
This time the civilian units were destroyed by a bomb launched by one of the 4 A-10s.
Marines killed in the land battle.
The result was still a triumph with 252 points.
Regarding the pics, well that was not my intention pointing you to Correcaminos scenarios
What images were those?

Re: New Scenario: Amphibious Assault on Kharg Island (2026)
Thanks again for your help.
The images were nothing special---just flags. They are not necessary, though. After seeing any of Correcaminos' scenarios, I feel that my scenario is little lame. Wow! His scenarios are awesome, and I haven't even played any of them as of yet. <lol>
In any case, reference the civilians, I moved many of them and placed them very close to some of the AAA units and SAM units, basically serving as human shields. After playing that I inadvertently killed 5 civilians in my most recent playthrough.
I LOVE using the missions for everything for all of the scenarios that I play, rather than directing them myself, and I set the Warthogs (when using them) to have a 10k foot floor, which did subject them to a little heat, and when all of the missiles and HRDRA were gone, the planes RTB. Hopefully, they killed enough. This set up a real nice ground battle. The point is, I let the various missions handle everything, and with the additional civilians that were killed, my score was still near 200 points. That said, any mistake, such as a Osprey or Warthog being downed would severely ruin you score. It's a do or die, or all or nothing type of thing.
On another topic, is there a SIMPLE way to have a Special Action be directed to add points to one side? I don't know anything about Lua, and I wouldn't want to use it unless I had to, but if I do, I wouldn't want to try to get too involved. I have managed to get the Special Action to do what I wanted, but I haven't figured out how to get it to add points. I am looking for a simple way to do it, because it isn't that important.

Re: New Scenario: Amphibious Assault on Kharg Island (2026)
Knightpawn's scenario has a SA, the "Trump card"
That add points to your side. It does more functions. But it is lua.
https://forums.matrixgames.com/viewtopi ... 8#p5271118
What do you want to do? Why do you need a SA and not an action?

Re: New Scenario: Amphibious Assault on Kharg Island (2026)
Yes, I saw that, but that is way above my pay grade. I'm sure to someone familiar with Lua, that is easy stuff. But, that's above me abilities.
I love the Special Actions, so what I am creating doesn't really do much, but I wanted to include one in the game. So, I came up with something, which really just serves to give the game player something to do while waiting for the aircraft to be readied. It's actually just cosmetic, but it does do something.
I'll play with it a little more today, and see where it goes. Perhaps I'll release the scenario before it becomes an actual reality. <lol>

Are you kidding me? Just don't be ashamed to vibe code, test and correct as necessary:-) Claude is your friend!DWReese wrote: Thu Jul 09, 2026 2:07 pm Yes, I saw that, but that is way above my pay grade. I'm sure to someone familiar with Lua, that is easy stuff. But, that's above me abilities.
Re: New Scenario: Amphibious Assault on Kharg Island (2026)
I moved many of my civilians near AAA and SAM units, and by the time that my aircraft arrived the scenario had already ended without me firing a shot. Why? The Iranians had killed them and it was now over the limit. This is weird because the are listed as friendly, but they were all massacred in the first minute of play. So, I spent the next hour moving them away, and playing it again. Less deaths, but still some. Again some moving, and I finally got it down to just one. I tried to learn why that one was selected. Other units were closer, but it was like the whole IRGC and AAA units all just wanted that guy dead. I moved him slightly, and hot the same result. I repeated that, with the same result. I finally just deleted the unit, and the problem was solved. I never could figure it out. I didn't make sense. I'm still testing, but so far, so good.
Knightpawn, regarding your response, I had to ask Google what "vibe code" meant, and I also had to ask who "Claude" is, so that should give you some insight into my coding abilities. <lol>
