The World at War ELO Tournament
Re: The World at War ELO Tournament
To get more people into rated games, this thread needs to end because calling these games an 'ELO Tournament' is misleading and not going to get clicks. (I only clicked because I was curious about getting into a tournament.) Then start a new thread for 'ELO Rated Games and Challenges' (or similar).
The 'Tournament' button is in the bottom right corner of the Challenges screen in the game, next to the 'Play' button. I can see now that this thread has nothing to do with that button. So again, using the word 'tournament' here is super confusing as this thread has nothing to do with the 'Tournament' button.
I'd be interested in joining a ratings system, and I know a couple of friends who would be interested too (but wouldn't join a tournament because to fully participate in a real tournament would take a lot of commitment and last a long time).
I see lots of password-protected games on the server, so I'm not going to get games with those people. If I join a game (or somebody else joins my game) that is not password protected, I have to take a chance on getting a newbie or experienced player, a regular or irregular player, or just a complete snowflake. I almost never come to this Matrix forum.
So if those here want to get more people into playing rated games, then, like me, you have to have games that are not password protected, and take a chance on who you get as an opponent. Once you have an opponent, you can ask them at the start if they would be happy to have the game rated for the ELO rankings and refer them to the (new) rated games thread here.
I end up playing a few people a lot, and word gets around quickly about who the snowflakes are. So if you get a known snowflake, you can either resign immediately, or not take the game seriously as you expect your opponent to resign by the end of 1941. I usually take the latter approach and get another game going as I know a snowflake is not going to make daily turns, but I always hope that they will learn enough to keep going and/or give me a better game next time.

Re: The World at War ELO Tournament
Thanks for feedback Tigertony and great to see you are happy to join our group of players. Hopefully one of the players here takes your game. I would but I am committed to my limit at the moment. Hopefully you can suggest to other players you know to join too.Tigertony wrote: Sat Jul 11, 2026 4:18 am Having said all that, and because I am already here, I have set up a game with me as Allies.

@pekka, well, it's an interesting game for sure. Unexpected and unwelcome setbacks on both sides lol
@taifun, XD It was a mistake in a moment of boredom/weakness. This game is too time consuming aaaah but it's a lot of fun XD

We've played each other before so looking for some new opponentsTigertony also has a game up as allies. You 2 could play, if you haven't played before yet.

Re: The World at War ELO Tournament
hasmat_slith (Axis) win vs HarrySmith (Aliies)
hasmat_slith (Rob) gave me a good thrashing. Russia surrended May/June 43 but played on. My strategy was to try to knock out Italy and Japan. Failed miserably in both Spain, India and then Ireland captured by Germany with Germany then pushing into China. . Germany had the largest fleet after rebuilding from a very low base. Totally had control over UK cutting off all supplies. Realistically I should of resigned after Russia but I know myself sometimes as Axis you would like them to play on and actually get further into the game.
My only shining light was China. Held on and kept plugging at Japanese. My morale of UK was down to about 13% and US 37% if I remember correctly.
Anyway a great game by Rob, and we will play again.

Thanks for the game, Harry and for all those very helpful tips you gave me, before we started, for keeping Italy in war longer. I can confirm they work quite well
And let's not forget, who thrashed who first! We'll have to do the rubber match at some point!

Great to see Rob, as adapting to Allies is by playing them. Pekka will give you a hard time for sure as a good player. Enjoyhasmat_slith wrote: Fri Jul 17, 2026 12:09 am New ELO game begins:

Re: The World at War ELO Tournament
ELO ended:
Worr (axis) [Loss] vs. gronivaure (allies) [Win] - Axis resign September 42. Fun game. Tx Worr.
For my first elo game with allies against Worr who played his first elo game, i try to minimise the loss of unit and withdraw in order when i can. Worr do everything well until Pearl Harbor. Bad luck with us entry and usa déclare war on Japan. Anyway he take every land between Birmanie, Guadalcanal and Australia with Japan. Germany take Suez but is permanently stopped in Irak and on the line Riga/Rostov. China units cut the rail road in North China. The attrition war is win by allies and Axis loose more unit than he can repair or rebuilt. With the outcome of the game clear, Worr resigned.
