As you can see from the "what's going on" report we have enough and then some for air capacity, which is the magic that allows paratrooper's to drop elsewhere. We've got an allowance of 9400 tons for rail transport, of which will have to come the tons allocated to my RR engineers, I'll have to plan for that, and now's the time to attack the Soviet aircraft if there ever was one. Their air shock level is next to nothing and mine is 140%. Which means I get a discount on my losses that I dare not miss out on. And I see a slight discount on their ground shock level and a substantial boost in mine. This is indicative to RBC's galore. Good news. Good to know.

I'm sorry to say that my jump map isn't all that helpful with nothing showing that
I'd care to see. I'm not sure how to fix this and I'm looking for a word or two about this from you guys, if you know something helpful.

I'd like to stifle the movement of Soviet units from this formation, to prevent them from getting away. So I think a good use of my paratroopers would be to block the available roads and rails heading to the east. Such a spot might be indicated by the yellow circle where I've depicted a spot blocking a rail leaving VOLKOVYSK heading northeast. I've chosen this spot because it's within range of both the rail across the river, a good place to break it, and also within range of a village just SE of my LZ on the river with a road through it. I can divide my unit into multiples and possibly grab both places at the same time. And if I lose them to combat results I can count it worth it to trap some Soviet units long enough for me to kill them.

I flew the mission and landed in the early morning hours before dawn and found a Soviet arty unit adjacent. I had to kill them so word of our landing wouldn't get out but my attack met some resistance and they refused to RBC. So I used the combat planner to schedule my attack.

When I sent the 2nd Brandenburger unit out it landed within range of two separate good places to block the road but after landing there appeared a Soviet Infantry Division. And my unit was so surprised that it went into reorg straight away. I'm tempted to change the deployment to minimize losses but I think it might just survive since it's proficiency is so high.

Hello Bob. Long time no see. Anyway, the minimap is messed up too. I right clicked to center it over a unit and I don't see anything important.

There were no further surprises on the rest of the landings but my units went into immediate reorg. Bad weather scattered the sticks I guess. It may take them several turns to get reorganized, I hope not.

The next thing to move is the separate arty tubes and I like to move them toward the front to spread out the coverage to as many enemy units as possible and sometimes I move them adjacent to the enemy unit if I know for a fact that the enemy unit won't be there at the end of my turn. The unit on the lower left has a different weapon set than the unit in the top center. That means the center unit has a longer range and will probably, therefore, shoot more often than the lower right one, so I'll have to set it at a lower losses rating like minimize losses so that it doesn't shoot it's entire supply in this first turn. I'd like it to have at least 50% supply at the end of the turn so that it'll be ready to go early next turn. I'm counting on it to resupply during the Soviet turn [ technically it's not then that my resupply happens but go with it ] to make it to at least 70% or so. I quit firing my arty pieces when they get down to 60% so that they will have enough supply to allow them to respond to any enemy attacks.

I managed to get a surround on the Soviet units in Brest-Litovsk which consists of 2 Soviet Regiments and a Security Bn. And I have a whole Division plus lots of arty so I suspect that it won't be much trouble to push them over. I've put together a sort of movie of the terrain and the units in this very early part of turn 1.

I moved this Corps HQ unit to a spot where it's arty would have reached three Soviet units but after I moved it I checked under the hood and discovered that this particular Corps HQ hasn't received it's arty yet. D'oh. I was mislead by the range 1 indicator in the upper right and thought it might have had some arty in it but noooooooooo. I'm not worried that it'll be hurt by combat because I have it on very good authority that those Soviet units will no longer be there 10 minutes from now.

I've started the RBC's and pushing the Soviet units backward to open a wide path through the middle. I want to trap as many enemy units as I can before they can escape to the east. After I've done all my air attacks, I'm planning on setting everybody to INT to wound as many moving Soviet units as possible. Plus I've given some thought to attacking those Soviet arty units sitting by themselves. Maybe I can wittle down the number of tubes opposing me.

I RBC'd what would RBC and I'm left with the following configuration near the town of Kovel. I'm planning on destroying all these units to open a path to Kiev. I'd like to stay out of the swamps and bad terrain to arrive as early as I can further east.

Okay, I've moved everybody. This is what it looks now. I managed to get a surround on lots of Soviet units so they will disappear but the rest of them will have to be tackled on the second combat round but I expect most of them to disappear as well. Almost nothing moved south of a line from Kiev to Lvov. I expect the Soviets in that area to retreat ASAP to the east. I have thwarted the exits for most of the Soviet units but more than a few are probably going to successfully flee.

This is just before the second combat round. Notice, if you can, the absence of a lot of Soviet units and more completed surrrounds on several Soviet groups. The air losses meter says the Soviets have lost 3830 aircraft for a loss of just 31 planes.

Some moves from Willie for my FITE2 game just arrived. I thought you would like to know how badly I'm losing so I've posted the PBEM turn below. When it asks for my password just press enter (enter nothing).

This is just after the second combat round in the Bialystok area. I have surrounded a lot of Soviet units and I believe I've gotten most of them thwarted from escaping and most of them are going to disappear.
