Is Hold Time For Strike A/C Excessive?

Post by DWReese »

I'm placing this here, just in case it is an issue that needs to be tweaked.

Air groups on STRIKE missions always form up prior to proceeding to their target.

Generally, these groups fly at 2000 feet while doing so.

They routinely make 3 loops before moving on toward Way Point #4.

While flying in these "loops" they expend fuel.

I have noticed that the form-up loops appear to be larger (longer) than before. At least is seems so to me. In some cases, I have seen 30-mile loops (or more). Going forward and back would equal 60 miles, and doing it 3 times would be 180 miles without ever actually heading anywhere.

Obviously, larger groups should take more time to form up, but even 2-plane groups seem to be taking the same amount of form-up time. Every scenario seems to be the same thing.

If you look at the fuel gauge by the time that the group is finally underway, you will usually see that one-quarter to one-third of the fuel is already expended. Remember, they were doing all of this flying at 2000 feet.

In fact, some of the RTB issues that has been reported may possibly be due to having reached BINGO early because of fuel.

Regardless of whether this is an actual bug, or something that needs to be tweaked, or something that is currently WAD, it might be something worth looking into. My most recently played scenario was Operation Trident Boreal.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.
