Weapons damage and repair

Post by Chris21wen »

In the game system damage is defined as 'topside structure' which to me is anything on or above the upper deck which includes guns etc. Flotation anything below it.

It had crossed my mind on more than one occasion why system damage and weapon damage were separate therefore but not bothered about it, well it turns out they are not. The manual doesn't necessarily imply one way or another.

The reason I'm saying it is, is because of some repair testing I carried and initially it confused me.

I doctored scen #1 start by setting all of weapons on two BB in PH to damaged status with 10 damage system damage. The first image show the repair manager at the start of turn 1, the second image next day. Look at the system damage for Arizona and Oklahoma. There was no attack on PH before some one suggest this is the reason.

I tested a number of ships with weapons damage and it appears that system damage between 1-3 points is added for each damage gun, larger guns get 3, anything <= 5in it's 1.

When it comes to repair every time a gun is repaired (replaced really) those few points are also removed from the system damage. This is not true the other way round as not all system damage is weapons damage. Plus system and weapons repair use different repair cost and where weapons can be repaired is different to ere ship damage can be repaired.
