Race to the sea HQ amount

Post by gamer78 »

In the first battle of Ypes I count 11 German HQ in Oct 21 in pbem game. They are historical no doubt. Ratings between 4-6. Supply is already enough but their purpose as there is no complicated command structure in game?

Its proper attaching of Hqs that's important with the Ypres scenarios I noticed. That and replacing substandard Hqs with better ones and then attaching important units needed to accomplish a mission with the best Hq(s) available..
Supply in the Ypres scenarios, while important, is secondary to proper Hq attaching. In other different SC-WW1 scenarios, supply can actually takes priority..especially when there are not a lot of Hqs available and the terrain is mountainous and or supply towns are sparse. Same with big wide open spaces in Russia or the Middle East.

I agree. You attach your troops to the few HQs with rating >5 plus some HQs with rating 5, and the rest of the HQs are useless.
In chess you sacrifice a pawn, in the first battles of Ypres you sacrifice a HQ to lure your opponent into a trap. At least that is the best use
you can make of your surplus HQs.

Next turn It was 15. The Volunteer Army in Russian civil War. More officers than the total army. :)

As the Germans its best through the first few turns (2nd Battle of Ypres) to sack a few 4 and 5 lvl Hqs and get in the Hq 7 (Prince Albrecht) and 6s. Even that little bit will leverage an advantage, at least in an MP match in my opinion.

I've played JTS France'14 race to the sea 1/3 in pbem, couldn't finish It was long game. I think HQ units perhaps should have shorter radious to command, if they come as reinforcements with art and inf. If it is about AI I don't think people will be interested in this scenario. AI won't have replayability with additional HQ. As mentioned those scenarious quick to play for multiplay matches.
