Easy WWII Game Recommendation

Post by Javidor »

Greetings all,

I'm 61 years old and grew up playing Avalon Hill WWII board games. I am trying to find an approachable game and a comparable game from Slitherine/Matrix. I have played games like Order of Battle, Panzer Corps 2, Commander: The Great War, and Unity of Command, and they are great.

I bought several games in the Strategic Command series but am struggling with them.

Any recommendations?
Thanks

greetings and welcome to the forum. here are a couple suggestions:

valor and victory is an easy to learn (tactical) game that has a board game feel.

the operational art of war (haven't played in many years but very fun):

IMHO, one of the best wargames you can buy is John Tiller's Campaign Series. It offers all the theaters of the war, with a platoon/250 meters scale, and turns of six minutes.

The bang for the buck is astounding, as you can easily find tons of other user-made scenarios on the web. The game is great, both vs. the AI and H2H, and is quite easy to learn. The long manual and the array of buttons may seem intimidating, but everything is there to assist you, not to force you to learn everything at once. Just play the tutorials and you will be up and running.

Hex of Steel also improved much, Pacific War is also gigantic. Noıt sure about the balance in Pbem but fun to play for WW'2 , so much scenarious.
