Mod Archeology

Post by ernieschwitz »

Has anyone else tried what I am going through now?

That is making a mod for a very old game, where there are no real instructions on how to do it, and nowhere you really can find a mod to look at so you know how to do it. This means you have to hunt down the mods through various means, and then read them to understand what they are doing? And then try and do what you want to do.

It is a great challenge. Unlike what I thought when I began, I really like the process. Anyone else?

I have used Wayback Machine a lot. The forum that was the main place people discussed the game, no longer exists. Wayback Machine lets me browse some of it. Unfortunately not all pages are backed up. So it is a bit of a hit and miss game. Sometimes you see something interesting, open a link, and... then it is not stored.

Have fun modding :)

Best I thought that I wouldn't be able to find more stuff for the game I am working to mod, someone, a friend, showed me his mod directory, and there was a big mod there, that I didn't have. :) I feel great :)

Have you encoun tered this problem with John Tiller's Battleground games? When your side wants to fire, you get an error saying that only guboat can do indirect fire?

wrong forum - better ask here: https://forums.matrixgames.com/viewforum.php?f=10959

but hey, i guess you're playing one of the ACW games on Tiller's old BG engine, there should be no "problem", though ... ONLY gunboats can do indirect fire, that's a rule and restriction. check the rules on combat/restrictions on ranged fire and the rules on gunboats - to me, this is just normal behavior ... maybe needs more details from you to make it a real problem.

cheers! :)
