Playing Boscara for 26 years, I finallly found a research location. It seemed to pop up like a story event, like I found a point of interest from a different exploration. Getting my first research lab up seems like such a struggle now, even when "Home system critical resources" is set to ensure. Having 30 research points isn't really a huge problem, as I've been recruiting spies.

So, If the story event pops up, with learning of a planetary feature- shouldn't the planet be partially explored? As you can see, I manually sent a constructor to the planet.

That should definitely not be happening. Seems like an event or discovery was triggered earlier than expected.

Do you mind sending us a save from before and after you noticed the issue?

I'm not even sure if it's a bug. Many times, the first time you enter a system, you get a message like "Ancient ruins +1 all research". I think this happens if you learn about the ruins.

Can you clear up the difference between
  • ruin discovery
  • galaxy map
  • story events adding exploration targets
Have a nice day,

Typically, ruins would be discovered after something gives you exploration on a planet and a ship investigates it. This can come from finding maps or exploration ships surveying a planet.

We really would need a save to take a look at your specific case. The UI here shows the location as not even explored or discovered, so there's no real reason why you should know of this ruin, unless an event has done something to your game state. Can't tell just by looking at the screenshot.
