The Last Days in Arnhem – 3D turn-based WWII tactical wargame – free Early Access

Post by Angiel »

Hi everyone,

I’ve just released the first public Early Access build of The Last Days in Arnhem, a small 3D turn-based tactical wargame set during Operation Market Garden.

The current scenario takes place west of Arnhem on 17 September 1944, shortly after the British airborne landings.

The game includes infantry squads, LMG/MMG/HMG teams, Fire, Tactical Move, Assault, Opportunity Fire, cover and LOS, morale/disorder, objectives and Victory Points.

You can play Player vs AI, AI vs Player or AI vs AI.

This is still an Early Access/Beta build. The core systems are playable, but I’m continuing to work on balance, AI and additional scenarios.

The game is currently free to download:

Gameplay video:

I’d especially appreciate feedback from experienced wargamers on AI behaviour, scenario balance and tactical feel.

Thanks for taking a look.

Small update / fix:

I’ve added a clearer on-screen message after Tactical Move when a unit has a valid target available.

The game now explicitly tells the player to fire at the highlighted enemy unit, or press ESC to skip firing.

This should prevent situations where the game appeared to be stuck when the available target was outside the current camera view.

Updated build is now available.

--Pressing I now displays an overlay next to Player units showing:
whether the unit has already been activated (green/red dot);
the unit’s current Disorder value.
--Pressing R displays the firing ranges of the currently activated unit, but only if that unit is controlled by the Player.
--Replaced several tree models that had excessive wind movement.
--Updated both the Italian and English game manuals.
--Replaced the low walls in the test scenario with improved models.
