Marines Hold the Line at Angolan Embassy

As an update to the escalating situation in Angola, AFRICOM has reported that an FNLA assault on the embassy was repulsed with heavy casualties on their end. While two guard posts were destroyed and the 2nd Platoon MSOR Battalion was wiped out by a faulty C4 charge, the main building and supporting facilities stand firm with minimal damage. AFRICOM has placed full commendations on the Marine reinforcements flown in from the USNS Newport for the successful defense of the facility. Angolan forces have lodged formal protests against the actions of the Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group for their repeated violations of Angolan airspace and have even accused them of bombing civilians however, AFRICOM has maintained that flights from the Ford CSG have been limited to Shows of Force and Close Air Support against aggressive FNLA forces. Russia has joined in these diplomatic complaints and has added on to them with criticisms of the seizure of the tanker Sadid. High level talks are currently being held to de-escalate the situation but the President has expressed confidence that he will be able to prevent further bloodshed. The situation in Angola remains tense but stable and while the AFRICOM chief admits that Russian and Angolan forces came disturbingly close to opening fire on American forces, he has also commended the Commander of the Ford CSG for his restraint and ability to assert American interests in the region.
