AAR D-Day Overlord Campaign(135 Turns) OrderInChaos (Allies) vs Johantje1983 (German) D-Day to Falaise Campaign Scenario
Setup Phase
New AAR this time with me playing the Allies (yes, I am doing two games and two AARs, one from each side). Once we get a few turns in I will start posting information with detail information on the air landings and the amphib landings. I know the American landings are not as easy as the British/Canadians but will post so the community can see in depth what works or doesn't work for me.
I invite Johantje1983 to post and is more than welcome to do the German side AAR in this thread or a separate thread. Really looking forward to both of these games. But most of all lets just have fun!
Thank you for reading

Setup Phase
You can read the House Rules, background, and force makeup here from my other AAR (they are the same)
https://forums.matrixgames.com/viewtopi ... 3#p5284513
You can also find the Victory Condition here from my other AAR
https://forums.matrixgames.com/viewtopi ... 8#p5284638
Makes it a little easier not having to type all the items or copy pasting. Thank you for looking at the links.
The Allies setup phase consist of either using Intel to reveal German units & stats. Other than that it was a real easy setup phase, on to the planning phase.

Turn 1 (No Execution Phase turn 1)
Planning Phase
82nd Airborne & 101st Airborne & 6th AB Supply & Ammo expenditure
I first give 82nd & 10st Combat and Move supply (doubles their combat strength & movement points). I gladly pay the points 6 points per division in the red box for each division. (note that their are cards that give this too but not until turn 2 and it is a one time use item)
I also pay for the British 6th AB too, but this one is a bit cheaper at only 4 total points, 2 Ammo & 2 fuel.

Turn 1 (No Execution Phase turn 1)
Planning Phase
Airborne units
I am sure everyone know this but in the game Airborne units are "Night Capable" which is shown on the counter with an N in a black circle (see red square in snapshot). The second snapshot tells you more of the in game benefits of Night Capable units.

Turn 1 (No Execution Phase turn 1)
Planning Phase
82nd Airborne & 101st Airborne Area
Here are my planned moves for T1 for 82nd and 101st Divisions. I have two deliberate attacks labeled "1st battle" & "2nd battle" (which I will go over in the next slide). The yellow arrows in the white box are move attacks or hasties. Again these are all proposed moves until both Allies and Germans finish their moves then the computer executes them and the battles will ensue.

Turn 1 (No Execution Phase turn 1)
Planning Phase
82nd Airborne & 101st Airborne Area
My first proposed battle is for St Mere Eglise (A Victory Point hex). I have an 8.6:1 attack with my units & 3 odds shift making it an 11.6:1 final result. I got 2 odds shift from the yellow arrow card & 1 odds shift because my boys are Veteran going up against regulars (4 star vs 3 star). I have the top unit attacking but staying in the hex it (green arrow) is attacking from (to leave a defender if I win the battle) and the white box is an "Assault" option instead of just an attack (BIG red arrow instead of normal arrow BUT bigger losses). This has the effect of raising the "intensity level of the combat making the defenders more prone to retreating if the attackers are successful. (Can see the intensity level at top left as "extreme".
The bombers will just bomb on their own and I am not expecting anything spectacular.
2nd battle is more of the same which you should be able to figure out.
The hasties fire on their own based on opposing faction units in the hex. See what we get Turn 2 execution phase.

You may be better off letting the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment (part of the 82nd) wait 'till daylight to attack Ste Mere Englise / Give them time recover from the drop (a.k.a., the "scatter" or "attrition" rolls airborne units make when they jump or land on their gliders) . . . Same for your planned 101st attack. My two cents, Don.

Thank you Timian for this... BUT I already sent the turn so I am going to have to wait and take whatever comes my wayTimian wrote: Tue Aug 11, 2026 7:07 pm You may be better off letting the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment (part of the 82nd) wait 'till daylight to attack Ste Mere Englise / Give them time recover from the drop (a.k.a., the "scatter" or "attrition" rolls airborne units make when they jump or land on their gliders) . . . I love learning as I play. Granted I am going to get a great many BUMPS on the head but I hope to learn from them. But keep the advice coming, love it.

Turn 1 (No Execution Phase turn 1)
Planning Phase
6th Airborne Area
The 6th Airborne are doing two hasty attacks (on a German DEMO unit at the bridge(white counter on the bottom of the big stack)) with one delayed by 3 movement points seen in 2nd photo (wait 3 in yellow box). Cross your fingers on hold on to your rear end we going in HOT

Turn 2 (Execution Phase (this is execution of phase 1 planning by both the German and Allies)
Execution Phase
St Mere Eglise (First Battle), 2nd battle, and 3rd battle in Airborne area
The result of the first battle for St Mere Eglise is in and the result is (see overall map next post for hex locations)
The result of the 2nd battle by 101st AB is in and the result is (I do have a hasty attack on this unit still to execute(hopefully))
I actually had a 3rd battle I totally forgot to mention. I should have just cancelled this one to start off with since they had supply issues to begin with. Anyway ended in a horrid loss for me
Then the follow up to the 2nd battle above by the hasty unit does the trick

6th Airborne area attacks results
The first British "move attack" does not dislodge the German Demo unit.
(my integrity on the units involved didn't help matters)
The second "move attack" does the trick

Unit destruction
Please note that once certain thresholds are reached i.e. Readiness and Strength below a certain level based on quality for example, the unit will surrender/eliminated and here you can see the chart what these thresholds are.
So all of the conscripts will surrender/ be eliminated at 25% Readiness and strength threshold for example.
