Question for Hubert and Bill about attack-defence

Fury Games has now signed with Matrix Games, and we are working together on the next Strategic Command. Will use the Slitherine PBEM++ server for asynchronous multi-player.

Question for Hubert and Bill about attack-defence

Post by welk »

Supposing this situation :

A unit named "A" with :
* attack capacity of 2 vs all other ennemy units
* range fire = 4
* evasion losses parameter in attack = 0

A unit name "B" vith :
* capacity of defence = 2 vs all other units
* range fire = 2

If "A" attacks "B" at range of 4, is there any chance that "B" would inflict defensive losses to A ?

Case 1 : no
Case 2 : yes

If not (case 1) => it' seems logical, because "B" can not fire at range 4 (his range fire is only = 2)

If yes (case 2) : it's not logic : due to the fact "A" attacks at range 4, how can "B" inflict losses to A out of his own fire range (wich is only = 2) ?

What is the correct case ?

A precision : don't take in mind the type of units (air, arty, etc) like in vanilla game : my question is given in perspective of my modding work (WW2 tactic battles) , that needs to give range fire > 1, 2 or in some case 3 to some grounds units (like tanks, assault guns, snipers, etc)

I have noticed that AI plays with high efficiency when you give a range fire > 1 ( = 2,3 or 4) to grounds infantry or armored units (that have a fire range = 1 in vanilla game) : the difference is highly clear between the AI of vanilla game and the AI in this configuration (wich plays with high efficiency and lot of agressivity)
