US DB Bomb?

Post by DOCUP »

Question, I see that the US dive bombers have a 1,000 lb GP bomb. Shouldn't they be using an AP or SAP bomb? Or does it switch depending on mission?

It can switch to AP as the device has a alt number for it. TBH, the GP bomb still penetrates most J CV decks and has more explosive - but I guess they do not know how thick their decks are - or more to the point, were not...

I am a wee bit late but the flight deck is not the main armoured deck. The main deck (the armoured deck) would actually be where the hanger is located. Except for maybe the British carriers which had an armoured flight deck but that is something else entirely.

OT, but CV armour is a trade-off.

Brit CVs were very resistant to kamikazes, but could not carry as many planes.
