My game vs ThunderLizard11

Post by petedalby »

I was really looking forward to playing TL11 and expected a real challenge as he’s top of the rankings.

Sadly that proved not to be the case. The Axis made steady progress in taking Poland & France but the Japanese offensive in China was below par. Japanese losses mounted & quickly exceeded those suffered by the Chinese.

Barbarossa was launched in July but struggled, despite the Germans not committing anything to NA. The Italians sent 4 infantry Corps & an HQ to IEA but they all died as did the remaining Italian forces in NA.

Pearl Harbour left several US units unmolested and the Chinese continued to dish out punishment. Due to the poor Japanese gains in China, the USAAF were able to site Strat Bombers near Sian and reduce most of the ports, including Port Arthur, to restrict Japanese MPPs.

RN losses were minimal and the U-boat threat neutralised. In the Pacific, IJN ships were picked off with relative ease.

The game was effectively over by March ’42 when Romania surrendered to Russian paras but we played on. Italy surrendered in Dec ’42. After that there was virtually no pressure or peril to the Allies across the board. Casualties were being taken, especially to German tanks, but Russian morale & ground units quickly exceeded Germany’s.

These are our respective losses in July 1943:

Astonishingly, the RN had lost just 1 ship. The USN suffered no additional losses after PH.

I’m a great believer in learning from defeats and I guess TL11’s win record shows he’s not had too much to learn. A closer look at his opponents reveals mainly inexperienced or complete newcomers to the game. I’ve encouraged him to seek out more challenging opponents to improve his game but if his only aim to stay at the top of the ladder I suspect he’ll continue as he is.

When he’s winning he regularly commends his defeated opponents on their fast play. In a period during our game he played 10 turns over a 34 day period with no comms or explanation.

I’ve offered a rematch but received no response.

Good post. I find it interesting to see how other games develop and turn out in the end. In my opinion it is not uncommon for the allies to win a game like this. As the axis I find you cannot make mistakes when playing a strong allied player. I really enjoy playing the Axis mainly and look forward to testing my wits against strong allied players in order to get better. at this point though my skills make it hard to believe it is even possible to beat a strong allied player though but maybe one day. :D
thanks for posting, N8

Thank you very much, Pete, for sharing this very interesting material. It provides valuable insight into TH’s actual level of play. How is it possible that the player ranked number one could suffer such a clear and decisive defeat?

In my view, this calls into question the image of invincibility that has been built through his numerous reported results. I believe his record and the legitimacy of the games contributing to his ranking deserve closer scrutiny by the community, as there are reasonable grounds to question whether his current position in the ELO rankings accurately reflects his level of competition.

If you weren't such a complete ass hole I would respond to your implication in detail but it's not worth my while. What deserves closer scrurtiny is your attitude about a game that's supposed to be for fun. How about you get a life and stop attacking other players?

I offered to give you some feedback on your game play and research choices but the end game crashed before I had a chance to look at all 3 Axis tables.

Would you like to receive any feedback?
