Range of BB Arkansas (same as destroyer???)

Post by OrderInChaos »

Is the Range of the BB Arkansas supposed to be the same as a destroyer???

Here in this photo the BB Arkansas is selected, and the range is highlighted in green shade and the pink arrow showing range of 4 (HMS Warpite has a 12 hex range).

BUT Destroyers have the same range as the BB Arkansas (pink arrow). Could the range be wrong for the BB Arkansas or just intended to be 4? Thank you in advance for your answer.

After her 1942 refit, her largest gun was 5” (18 of them) / 12 50 caliber and 6 51 caliber. Don.

Awesome! So her range is 4 as intended. Thank you so much for your answer and super quick response. So in essence she is a "glorified" destroyer ;-P

Correction . . . Getting the Wyoming confused with the Arkansas / Apologies.

The Arkansas had her 12” guns throughout WWII. Wyoming was converted to a AA training ship (loosing all her 12” guns) in 1944.

Need to chat with the Designer / More to follow.

As promised, I talked with bcgames (Overlord's Designer).

The range of Arkansas is based (like all the ships in the game) on the "box" it was assigned - in lanes swept of German Mines and protected from E-Boats and U-Boats by Destroyers + Frigates - to conduct it's bombardments / suppression missions vs. German Coastal Artillery.

Arkansas primary mission was to suppress the Coastal Artillery vicinity Port-en-Bessin as well as the Eastern end of Omaha.

So she was a good distance East of Omaha . . . Due North and a bit West of Port-en-Bessin.

Hence the shorter range for Arkansas's guns.

For comparison, the Texas (with 14" guns) was positioned just North of the West end of Omaha . . . Much closer to Omaha than the Arkansas.
