VP and leaders

Post by johantje1983 »

I’m playing the game as the Axis now. I wonder if the VP distribution actually allows the Axis to win. I’m also losing a lot of beachhead units because they can no longer move due to fatigue, and the Allied player gets VPs for eliminating them. I like the unit counters featuring leaders, but I wonder if the leaders actually have any impact on the battlefield. Also, the 12th SS is represented as a regular unit, whereas they were actually quite elite.

By this time in the war, training-wise, the SS were equal perhaps a little better than the Herr. However, because of their equipment and TOE (i.e., three Panzer Grenadier Battalions in a Regiment) their Divisions had greater combat power and resilience. Giving them a quality of four does not match resent publications like "Sand and Steel" (Caddick-Adams) and "Normandy 1944" (Zetterlin).

But if you feel the 12th SS or other SS Divisions deserve a higher Quality Rating, you can mod this via the Editor.

As to leaders, "Panzer Meyer's" leadership (25th SS Panzer Grenadier Kamphgruppen) in the 12th SS's Counterattack vs. the Canadians (on 7th June) made a significant difference (hence the +2 rating).

Victory Points . . . A German Victory is possible (saw it in Alpha Testing) . . . But you must "husband" your forces.

I think the allies are favored:-)
With leader i mean the leaders it self, not the card leader.

If you're referring to the pictures of the Division, Corps, etc. Commanders (on the Division, Corps, etc. counters) . . . No impact on the game.

Yes . . . Given their Naval and Air Assets + Ground Troops (once ashore) the Allies are favored.

That having been said, while good for learning the game, the AI is not the tough of an opponent. Better to play vs. another person (via Multiplayer). If you're interested, let me know (you pick the side and scenario).

Would be nice if the leaders have some impact in the future.

Johan,

Will talk with WEGO WWII’s Designer (bcgames), but priority (for now) . . . Mods to the game engine are: #1 Market Garden and then #2 Desert War Generals’ Edition.

Just out of curiosity, do you have a suggestion or an example (on how to implement)?

I was thinking more about an attack and defense rating, and maybe certain traits for some leaders that influence attack/defense on specific terrain, or positively or negatively on the LOC. Or a trait for the airborne troops with +1 attack during the night or something like that. Just some ideas. Also because a lot of work has gone into the HQ system, and the icons and names of the leaders. And leaders did ultimately have some influence on the battlefield. I think this really makes the game; I find it a fun game in its genre, especially once you understand it.

Does LOC = Lines of Communication???

Also Allied Airborne, Commandos / Rangers, and all (both Allied and German) Recon are Night Capable. So at night their attack factors are not reduced (halved). In an update that should be released soon, the German 6th Fallschirmjager Regiment (91st Air Landing Division) will also be rated as Night Capable. Reflects the almost continuous night training they did (similar to the Allies).

For what it’s worth, Fallschirmjager units belonged to the Luftwaffe not the Herr (German Army). Don.
