Occasional screen flickering

I’m starting to notice occasional screen flickering in SC War in the Pacific. Though it may be actually be across the entire SC series of games, being perhaps a bit more prominent in WitP.

I’m playing on an Intel-based Core 9 185H Geekom GT1-Mega Mini PC, 32 GB DDR-5 RAM, Intel Arc Graphics (latest update), monitor is an LG 27UL500-W, 60Hz, 4K scaled at 200%. Game files are located on an external WD Game HDD.

I’ve looked the issue on Internet and have adjusted Intel Arc Graphics settings and played around with capping refresh rate to 60Hz, V-Sync On or V-Sync SmoothSync, AMD Freesync on/off, Response time on/off.

The game runs well but the occasional screen flickering persists (both with monitor connected via HDMI 2.0 and also via Display Port 1.4-to-USB-C Alt) usually when a pop up message appears. I have managed to reduce the incidents with the adjustments referenced earlier.

I have yet to test this on another gaming monitor with QHD resolution with same connection ports.

EDIT: Same occasional flicker issue with another 27-inch 1440p proper gaming monitor with higher refresh rates.

Could you tell me when you see the flickering?

Is it while in the game map? Or somewhere else?

Or when running some kind of specific sequence, like opening different in game panels and screens or closing them etc.?

Well, it occurs in-game, in map view, when a pop-up message appears. Again, it is occasional, random, not on one specific pop-up message or necessarily the same one every time. It might likewise occur when opening or closing a screen. When it does occur, it is a quick flickering, in a blink of an eye, not anything continuous. You might even miss it if you happen to blink at that moment. Thanks!

This is helpful, and if I can ask, is it a black flickering?

Not sure what “black flickering” means. The issue I see can be described as a very fast “blackout” as it were, if that’s what you mean. I guess you could say the effect is as if the screen were to go “black” but only for an instant, similar to a blink of an eye. I call that flickering. But when it occurs it seems to be associated with a pop-up message or a screen.

Yes that is what I was trying to express, the screen flashing like as though it had gone all black for a split second, and then returning.

I've seen this on my end as well, attempting to narrow it down and your descriptions have been helpful

Yes, that’s it. A very quick flash. Since you’ve seen that yourself, you know exactly what I mean. Great, so it’s not “just me.”
