Bored with Empires in Arms?

Post by pzgndr »

As we finalize v1.50 for release and I've been updating the game manual, I am reminded why I find this game so interesting and appealing. With three campaign scenarios for 1805, 1812, and 1813, times two for different Classic EIA and Alternate EIH versions, times seven for the different Major Powers you can play, there are 42 different games you can play. Have you tried them all? Have you tried changing the AI computer opponent difficulty settings for your opponents to mix it up?

In updating the game manual, I made corrections to the 15.2 Minor Country Chart for Classic EIA vs Alternate EIH national modifiers. When I created the different versions with their different setups and orders of battle, I also edited the national modifiers but never documented those differences in 15.2. There aren't that many, but there are some which makes playing the different EIA and EIH versions somewhat... different.

And as I went through the player notes and the two strategy articles included in the game manual, the richness and fullness of this fascinating grand strategy game of the Napoleonic Wars is overwhelming. I suspect there are players out there who have gotten bogged down with something missing from the game (I can't create the Kingdom of Two Sicilies!) or have gotten into a rut playing a particular nation over and over and find it's not interesting anymore. Well, try working through those 42 different games with their unique strategy challenges and see how it goes. Just a thought.

And when you get bored playing solitaire against AI computer opponents, try PBEM. I know there are some small group PBEM games that are running, games with less than 7 players and using some AI substitutions. A full 7-player PBEM game with email file exchanges takes a lot of time to play, but smaller groups can have faster turns. First games for new PBEM hosts can be challenging but the game manual explains how to do everything. Just another thought.

Don't get bored with this great game! Try something different. Have fun with it. Enjoy!
