Accounting Issue in Air Performance Statistics (Air Phase Report)

Post by Wiedrock »

Continuing the Air excourse, in A2A a general/continuous accounting error happens with the Aircraft Performance Statistics in the Air Phase Report see here.
The "damage to" and the "damaged planes" figures are completely off.
There is the possibility that the same happens to Flak caused damage, but can't prove it due to missing log info.
This combined with the oneshot and 99% kill ratio in A2A that can be observed may explain why there's not much going on with damaged planes as I have wondered about before.

We meet the two figures we found earlier yet again.
I want to highlight the 32 ...or 46 damaged Ju 88A... Ghost Divisions ....nooo Ghost Flights. ;)
If these numbers were used to balance the DES vs DAM results in A2A it is no wonder the game is missing damaged planes and pretty much 100% gets killed. Since this is not a 22:32 or 22:46 ratio but at max a 22:2 Ratio [actually being a 22:1 and likely ending as 22:0 damaged planes due to automatic repair (or so)]. In large tests like T1 you'd likely see 100 DES and 500 DAM out of 1000 Sorties and think that it makes sense, but it doesn't.
The numbers bug is based on the "plane already being downed/brought to 0HP but still being shot at".

In the following example we see:
The total damage done by the I-153 is reported as 607.
The total damage done by the I-153 to Ju 88As is reported as 607-101-124=382.

We have 5 planes being engaged "...damage 0 +". So the damaged planes are off (obviously).
The number of damaged planes being off in two ways.
  • First off each damage occurence is counted as a damaged plane. So each "Ju 88A damaged by 7.62mm ShKAS MG (4)" (of which we have 8 events) simply gets counted, even if it is the same plane/the same engagement.
  • Second, the total planes that get damaged by the I-153 being shown as 10 is the same issue as above with the caused damage figures 382 vs 607. Once the durability reaches 0 the "Ju 88A damaged by 7.62mm ShKAS MG (4)" turns into "damaged by 7.62mm ShKAS MG (4)" (so without the plane type). This then gets added on top, since we have 2 of such cases the total planes damaged by I-153 are shown as 8+2=10.
So it is actually:
5 planes were engaged (0 +)
5 planes shot down (5x"shoots down" + 3x"Ju 88A destroyed" → again 2xevents missing)
0 planes end damaged
8 damaged events doing 382 damage (to 5 different planes)
10 damaged events (including 2 overkill doing 225 damage) doing 607 damage (to 5 different planes)

So it is a DES to DAM ratio of 5:0, not 5:8 and not 5:10.
I don't see this as a realistic ratio under any circumstance imaginable.
I wonder if it is the same for G2A/AA, unfortunately we do not have proper logs for AA.

So far on the "numbers bug front"...

Not a B-17, but results still are as expected. Once engaged planes are done.
Oneshots 6x
Total shots 10x
  • Average damage per Burst is (26+16+124+101+6+56+78+124+12+64)/10=60.7HP.
So a I-153 with 4x7.62mm oneshots each German bomber in the game on average (Allied heavy bombers would barely survive).
  • Per engagement we have an average of (42+225+62+202+76)/5=121.4HP.
So a I-153 with 4x7.62mm on average deals 121HP damage per engagement - no problem to even kill any US Heavy Bomber with ~60-70HP.
So it remains that the only thing that matters is IF an engagement happens. If it happens hands are off and the kill is a 99% even with the worst armaments.
