Yeah, yeah, yeah, wise guys!

All those years in the Army. Never really thought about fixed wing...

Thanks! I have some Emilys in the Home Islands that can fly them south and some Emilys that can pick them up from SE Fleet AO. Four days total. Five of the 6 are still off loading from the train.

28 Jan 43 - Quiet day. Tomorrow won't be...

Sub War

The I-157 just got back to her patrol area just NW of Australia and managed to eat another depth charge. Her damage isn't too bad, but bad enough to head back to Soerabaja for repairs: 4-23(17)-10(6)-0.

Edit: I'm toying with sending MKB down there to beat up on the DDs that have parked themselves there. Gotta keep Ted on his toes. ;)

5 Fleet

The attack goes in tomorrow following a bombardment of 6 BB, 6 CA and 6 CL. Fingers crossed...

4 Fleet

Nothing to report.

SE Fleet

Only 34x 4Es bombed Lunga today. The fighters and Dauntlesses all rested. None of the other heavies have been seen since they bombed Rabaul way back on 18 Jan. They're probably still repairing and taking replacements. I've been frantically repairing subs at Truk. Only 3 are still damaged. I sent about half a dozen south to various strategic (I think) points south of Lunga. I hope they get to their stations before the invasion force sails. It would be nice to intercept a loaded AP or two.

My fighters and FBs are rotating in and out to rest and get their morale back up to 99. Most of the Georges are good to go as are about half the Tojos. The rest are all resting, mainly at Truk.

SRA

Nothing to report.

Burma

Things are quiet here after yesterday's attack. I'm training sweep with most of my fighters increase their defense.

China

Today's bombing/bombardment destroyed only 24 squads.

Raw AV:
Japan: 4065 (+467)
China: 2599 (-106)
Enemy strength: 289k (k)
Enemy units: 90 units (no change)
Guns: 443 (-17)

The infantry division I was waiting for arrived today. The attack goes in tomorrow. This will be against level 5 forts. Last attack (14 Jan 43) was against level 6 forts and the Japanese raw AV was 3509 vs. the Chinese raw AV of 3604. (A reinforcing Chinese infantry Corps arrived that turn.) I am hoping for a nice result tomorrow. There are an additional 5 divisions headed to Chungking.

Other Stuff

The N1K2-J George R&D advanced to 3/44 and is expected to become operational 3/43.

If you set the Kates at 1000 feet with torpedoes selected but there are no torpedoes, they will carry two 250 kb bombs which work fairly well against destroyers.

Isn't that (2x250kg bomb) that standard bomb loadout for B5N's? I don't think the altitude or lack of torpedoes changes that ...

Bettys and Nells get the full bomb load the way that I suggest, I don't know what the Kates get.

Nope, no typo. The Americans get it better, Devastators with four 500 pound bombs! I sank a Japanese battleship with 40 such hits in two turns with no hits penetrating the armour . . .

29 Jan 43

Sub War

The I-36's mission is to spy on Noumea. Her job isn't to sink shipping unless it runs over her. Today, she sank a Liberty ship a few hexes south of Noumea. I'll take it.

5 Fleet

The BB bombardment force hit Adak doing good work before the ground attack went in.

The deliberate assault wore down the defenders, but the fort level remains at 3. One of my divisions is in bad shape. I'm going to attempt to pull them out by fast transport (after they drop off supply). We'll see if it works. If they take losses evacuating, I'll leave them there.

4 Fleet

Nothing to report.

SE Fleet

Fourteen Dauntlesses and 29x 4Es went after Lunga today. Again, little damage was done to the troops.

I'm flying some of the 20mm AAA companies south. Even using flying boats and Tinas, it's going to take awhile.

SRA

MKB1 and MKB2 are leaving Singapore for a potential ambush at the NW corner of Australia. If there are no ships there, I'll steam down the coast to see if I can catch something by Perth. I usually have a sub down there, but they don't get much action. It'll take 4 days for them to get into position.

Burma

Six Catalina Is went after a supply convoy at Cox's Bazaar. The Tojos stationed at Akyab made short work of them. None went home. It's always nice to kill Catalinas.

China

A total of 212 bombers hit Chungking before the attack went in. They destroyed 9 and disabled 132 squad.

Then the attack went in. It was a bloodbath on both sides. I lost 240 squads and had another 950 disabled. A few divisions took the brunt of the damage. Of the 14 divisions, 9 are heading to Neikiang for R&D to join the division there. The five who are in good shape (just fatigued and disrupted) will hold the line. Another fresh division is 100 miles out and four more are marching from Wuchang to Changsha where they will take trains to Tuyun and then march the final 270 miles to Chungking. I have two more divisions that are being relieved from surrounding the enemy troops at Kanhsien.

At any rate, the forts were not reduced and remain at level 5. Too bad. The Chinese lost 3 units. I'm only aware of an infantry corps. I'll find out about the other 2 tomorrow after the bombardment. According to the report, about 480 Chinese squads were destroyed.

It's interesting that the Chinese raw AV almost equaled the adjusted AV (2547 to 2453) while my raw AV was twice the adjusted AV (4084 to 1930). I'll find out how much raw AV the Chinese lost tomorrow. My current raw AV is 2421, but I'm not too concerned about that. It will rise pretty quickly. I'm more concerned with the fatigue. I'll be curious to see how fast the fatigue declines with the divisions that are out of the hex.

Here are the stat, keeping in mind that some don't reflect today's attack.

Raw AV:
Japan: 4084 (+19) - pre-attack
China: 2547 (-52) - pre-attack
Enemy strength: 282k (-7k) - post attack
Enemy units: 87 units (-3) - post attack
Guns: 448 (+5) - Who knows how accurate this number really is.

Other Stuff

Reinforcements
AG Shirasaki Maru
xAKs Hofuku Maru and Sanju Maru, these are the first 2 of 12 Std-Bs I'm building. They will all arrive by early May. They will be converted into nice little 14 kt TKs.

A little info on Adak. I did a deliberate assault on 22 Jan and a week later, 29 Jan. They are being worn down. Here is the AV change of each unit showing, in order, end of first attack, beginning of second attack and end of second attack:

34 Infantry Regiment: 115, 109, 49
40 Infantry Division: 148, 116, 113
53 (Sep) Infantry Regiment: 77, 64, 59
87 Mountain Regiment: 99, 108, 99
58 (Sep) Infantry Regiment: 108, 106, 102

I was surprised Ted put so much in Adak. In addition to the combat units, there is an FA battalion, 6x coastal AA regiments, an aviation engineer battalion, a port maintenance engineer battalion and 3 base groups. Lots of stuff.

I'm not surprised. It's similar to how I garrison Adak if I own it ... AA and CD units really make a difference in defense of an island ....

Interesting that the forts at Chungking dropped last time, but not this time. From the raw AV todays attack seemed much more favorable than the last. Do you know if the last attack got better adjusted odds or did your engineers reduce the fort?

I checked the AAR and I didn't write down the odds. My guess was it was 1:2 or maybe worse last attack. (It was 1:2 this attack.) I chalk it up to the RNG. At any rate, he's low on supply and his raw AV keeps dropping. The result at Chungking is inevitable (or so I think). The only time his raw AV increases is when he gets a reinforcement Corps.

Your infantry divisions have combat engineers. You know that they like to play with putty . . .

Those are the only engineers I have in the hex. The Independent Engineer Regiments are nerfed in this mod. In the basic game, I believe they have 48 combat engineers. In this mod, they have only 9. I used them at Singapore and they got slaughtered. Now they only are used for building.

I remember thinking when that came up originally here in your AAR that it was a BIG nerf, and this only confirms my original thought. All I can say is "OUCH!". Sorry .....
