Unable to launch EIA

Post by Stenan »

Hi,
I have been having problems running the Beta 1.50 with the program refusing to launch.
Followed the instructions to instal 1.23.08, followed by 1.27.4 and at that stage everything works as normal. I can start the game and it runs as expected.
I then copy the Beta folders & files into my Beta game folder and try to run the game, but it will not start. I have tried opening via the PLAY option in the menu box/program where you have several options to select (play. Game manual, register, forums, etc) and I have tried by selecting the EIANW application directly within the game folder but without success.
I have tried the above installation procedure multiple times and checked access permissions for the program and folders but EIA refuses to launch. That being said it appears to be open in the background as I can see it as an open process in task manager.
running in widows 11 with a compatibility setting of windows XP and run as an administrator selected.
Now caught in a loop of try and try again but nothing works.
I have had no problems with my non Beta 1.27.4 installation.
Any suggestion as to what I could be doing wrong or could be happening ?

Playtesters have been able to open the zip file and copy&paste the updates into their new beta game folder and play OK. Are you doing something else perhaps? Try uninstalling your beta installation, reboot, and try again.

Hi,
Thanks for the quick reply,
I uninstalled, rebooted then installed in another location 1.23.08. Game opened and worked.
I then installed 1.27.4 and the game started.
Rebooted and the unzipped EIANW 1.50029 Beta file and cut and paste contents into my Beta folder (version 1.27.4). During operation message for copying 144 file, replace 19 came up. I accepted then when finished I rebooted.
went directly to the Beta folder location and ran the .exe but the game did not launch. Once again I checked task manager and the program was listed as being open.
All very strange as up to 1.27.4 in my normal installation location everything works fine. When I instal in a new Beta location up to version 1.27.4 the program opens and appears to work fine.
It is only when I cut and paste the contents of the 1.50029 beta version into this folder that I get a problem with the game not opening.
I am going to uninstal and try again but pretty sure it is going to arrive at the same end point and not open up on the screen

Only thing I can suggest is to maybe copy&paste the individual files or subfolders into the game folder where they belong, to ensure everything is there. Sometimes the game will not start if files are missing, and perhaps what you were doing was missing something. I don't know. It should work to simply copy&paste the contents of the zip file into the game folder. Another thing to try would be to unzip the files into a dummy folder and then copy&paste the unzipped files into your game folder. That might work.

Bill,
I followed your advice and copied and pasted the individual files and exe into the Beta folders but had the same result, no launch. I had actually tried that approach soon after you released the beta earlier in the month.
Probably going to put my efforts on hold and see what happens with the release version.
I dont want to sound defeatest but before I sent my call for help message I had tried dozens of times to instal the beta without success so there must be something unusual taking place on my PC
All very strange as any installation I have done upto the 1.27.4 update has worked fine?

Thanks for your help
