CS:ME vs. CS:V

Post by RedwoodForest »

With the conflicts erupting in the Middle East these past few months, I have grown interested in more deeply exploring the military history of the region. Naturally, I'm turning to this. I already own Campaign Series: Vietnam; how does this game compare?

Haven't played these games in a few months, but I'll tell you what I can. They are mostly the same game function wise, I'm sure there are some features that haven't been ported back to CSME yet but that is the plan. The biggest difference is going to be the AI. CSME doesn't have the scripted AI that CSV has, just the basic AI. I think there are a couple of scenarios scripted with the new scripting engine in CSME but that is it. The plan stated as time allows to script the CSME scenarios to the CSV standard. Both are fine games with a lot of scenarios and historical OOB's, they look good also. The AI scripting in CSV does set it a bit apart.

Hello RF, as Budd noted, the main difference outside the very different theatre of operations is the lack of human scripted scenario AI for Middle East game. The latest updates have been updated to include generated scenario AI files, but at this stage it is mostly about the computer player artillery acting in a decisive manner.

Outside that, there is a ton of content available, also in the MODS folder by Alan Arvold, with all Arab-Israeli War, October war and Suez 73 boardgame inspired situations modeled there. He also converted the old Divided Ground scenarios to Middle East. Those do not have human made scenario AI scripts either, but beyond that offer a nice walk in the memory lane imo.
