v1.4.0 — AAR message log reader

https://github.com/twistedpretzel/cmo-d ... d/releases

Load a CMO message log and the dashboard reads it back as an after-action review.

Everything is parsed in your browser. The log never leaves your machine, and as always the tool ships no game data — you generate the dashboard from your own install.

Six tabs

Overview — what the log contains, an activity timeline, and how every weapon that reached an endgame actually ended. Two thirds of misses in the sample corpus never reached a probability roll at all — they ran out of energy, malfunctioned, or were seduced — so the page reports rounds-expended and engagements-scored side by side rather than blending them.

Weapons — every weapon resolved against your loaded database, so each row links to its catalog card. Hit rates carry 95% confidence intervals and anything below n=5 is dimmed rather than ranked. The logged base probability is checked against the database's own PoK value. Rows expand by target class and speed band. A separate panel lists engagements fought against targets faster than the weapon's rated TargetSpeedMax — which turns out to explain most of the hopeless shots.

Mechanics — final probability plotted against the line-of-sight rate the engine recorded, modifier incidence, worked engagement chains shown as the engine wrote them, and soft-kill systems compared declared-against-realised.

Losses — losses by cause, including units lost to fuel rather than enemy fire. Then ordnance effect: which impacts actually did damage, and which struck a target that was already finished.

ORBAT — if you also have a scenario snapshot loaded, damage taken is read against the class's database damage points, and losses against the roster. Also a rough expenditure check: rounds of each weapon seen reaching an endgame, against the quantity of that weapon held across the whole snapshot. That is a force-wide ratio, not a per-unit magazine count — the log never names the firing unit, so rounds cannot be attributed to a hull.

Denied — shots the engine refused, with the reason it gave.

Everything exports to CSV. The parsed log exports to JSON and loads straight back in.

Getting a good log

Under Options ▸ Message Log in CMO, the analysis needs Weapon Endgame Calculations, Unguided Weapon Accuracy Modifiers, Weapon Damage, Unit Damage, Unit Lost and Point Defence. Turning Scenario Events, Unit AI, Debug and User Interface off cuts the file size a lot without losing anything the page uses. CMO overwrites the log each session, so copy it aside.

Where a measure needs records your log doesn't contain, the page says so and names the setting, rather than reporting zero as though it were a finding.

Also in this release

Expanded sections stay expanded. Opening a scenario ORBAT three levels deep, clicking into a platform and pressing back used to collapse the whole tree and dump you at the top of the page. Collapsible state and scroll position now survive navigation, on every page that has them — the ORBAT tree, weapon detail blocks, AAR rows, the changelog. Reported by Parel803.

Notes
  • Date formats follow your Windows regional settings. The reader works out the format from the file and shows which one it used.
  • Records visible to several sides are written once per side; those duplicates are merged so counts aren't doubled.
  • One log at a time. Loading another replaces it — export first if you want to keep one.
  • The reader shows a count of records it could not classify, so if a scenario type produces message shapes it hasn't seen, that's visible rather than silent. Post a log and I'll add them.

Thank you! :D

A problem of the logs is that the name of the scenario is not given, just the date.

AFAIK the name of the scenario only appear in the exception files.

Attached 2 logs files with 2 unmatched records.

- Underwater explosions.

- Fuel explosions.

More stuff that perhaps you want to add to your "CMO Swiss Army Knife Tool" :)

I have used Notepad++ to search for a particular unit in the scenarios folder, in what scenarios does it appear?

Examples, all the U2s or USS Georgia USGN.

That info is in the .ini files, sometimes in html or even in the description of the .scen itself, however most of the .scen files content is encrypted, but still a lot of info can be extracted from the rest of the files or the description.

You may also add functions of the CMANO scen view tool.

Thank you for providing more logs. I plan on doing some housekeeping of the tool this week, and try to buff up the existing features with some.minor additions if any. The log files certainly will help with that.

This is a really great tool.

Is it possible to make a release that combines both the CWDB and DB3000 into a single "webpage", each unit could then have a field showing the associated database, and would save having to go between different database webpages.

It sounds straightforward in principle - but I guess it's probably more involved than it first seems

I'm using this a lot.. would it please be possible to add the unit ID's in a column to the left... e.g. as in the image with the yellow arrow, if theres not room, could you add it when you click the csv export ? That would be super.

New DB dropped.

I'm a fan, but wouldn't the sensor providing fire control tracks really determine the viability against certain target types? Unless this is an artifact of the Pk calculation performed, the capability needs to be assigned to the projectile for the dice roll.

Certain gun rounds have an excellent capability against sea-skimmers (and small boats) not because of the FC director but because of the optimized fuse on them, hence the flag.

All, I expect v 1.5.0 to drop today or tomorrow. Mostly tidying and improving parts of the tool. Nothing too major, no new features to announce. Regarding "Scenarios with this unit" or scenario features in general, unless it is a log or lua export I don't want to touch the .scen files themselves.

v1.5.0 — ORBAT rebuilt

New in the page:
  • Lasers get their own card. A laser shot writes two records: a hit roll, and a separate energy-against-durability kill roll. Different models, not pooled.
  • The ORBAT tree is rebuilt. A real export gave me 256 task groups under one side, 157 of them named Flight <callsign> — because a flight still sitting on the ramp isn't airborne, so it falls through to its own row. Each side now opens to three rows — Airborne, Tasked, Has unassigned units — with expand-to-level buttons underneath.
  • 381 units were never being counted in the readiness chips. Aircraft returning to base, on final approach, taxiing, queued for a runway — all landing in a bucket the chips ignored. That's why they never added up to the force.
As always: no game data ships with the tool, you generate the dashboard from your own install, and everything on the page exports to CSV.

Great Tool!! Thanks for the effort.

When trying to load one of my log files (see attachment) I get this error:
error
error
Screenshot 2026-09-23 083520.png (65.36 KiB) Viewed 679 times
It states my DateTime format is unsupported, although I see it in the list of formats. I looked at some older logs from a year ago and those have a different DateTime format (DD/MM/YYYY HH:MM:SS) and loaded with no problem.

I am currently running v1.10 Beta - Build 1892 If that matters.

Thanks for the quick update.

Noticed another thing. These navigation links on the Feature Glossary page have an odd behaviour. When clicked they show a page that just says "Not Found", but navigating with the "Back" button on my browser brings me to the correct section on the page that I had just tried to navigate to.

I spent a bit of time and got a combined "both databases in 1 dashboard" working locally and have submitted a pull request; if you're interested in including this in your master release. The relevant database can be selected at the top left corner, or both can be viewed at the same time (as shown in the screenshot).

I am getting a 404 on the links to the github page when I click on them. I tried all the links throughout the thread.

hmm, this is concerning. Currently twistedpretzel has no public repositories at https://github.com/twistedpretzel
Hopefully it's a temporary state, as this is one of the best open source projects to happen to CMO recently.
